Former President Donald Trump has surged to 62 percent support in April among Republican primary voters, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has crashed to 16 percent, Emerson College polling trends show.
Since January, Trump has gained 20 points over DeSantis, when the former president held 55 percent of GOP support, with DeSantis at 29 percent support, a 26-point spread.
In February, Trump gained four points over DeSantis for a 30-point advantage. Trump’s support remained constant with 55 percent support, while DeSantis’s dropped four points to 25 percent.
In April, Trump surged 16 points from February over Desantis to a 46-point advantage. Trump’s support increased by seven points to 62 percent, while DeSantis’s plunged nine points to 16 percent.
According to the Emerson data, Trump’s GOP support remained mostly consistent throughout January and February, while DeSantis’s slightly dropped. The drastic separation between the two presidential hopefuls began after news of the Trump indictment broke on March 31. A few days later, Trump was arraigned in New York City.
Following the indictment, Trump’s polling numbers soared to 46 points over DeSantis’s. Trump’s dominance was somewhat at DeSantis’s expense. DeSantis lost nine points of support, while Trump’s support grew seven points, a nearly inverse correlation.
The data suggests the indictment has united the Republican Party behind the former president. Trump has appeared to galvanize support by harnessing the seemingly endless far-left attacks against him that have continued even after his presidency.
In one sentence on his Truth Social bio, Trump neatly packages those attacks into a call for support.
“THEY’RE NOT COMING AFTER ME, THEY’RE COMING AFTER YOU—I’M JUST STANDING IN THEIR WAY!” it reads.

“An outspoken former president in the news several times a day is far better known than a governor doing the work of his state.”
DeSantis is not in the state and has’t been for quite some time. He is on a world tour now, where he can come back and pawn himself off as an expert in foreign affairs.
Has he lose that fly that was trapped in his hair?
“They are exploring for campaigning cash.
“yep, grovelling and begging for money, along with compromises, promises and access to the fatcat oligarchs ... something every damn politician in the world has to do except Donald Trump”
Pence energetic? In comparison to what, a tree sloth?
The further our society sinks into clown world, the higher Trump’s stock rises.
We are finally seeing policies and issues that are so batsh*t crazy that even the infamous suburban soccer moms can no longer ignore and hold their noses. They may be finally realizing the boorish orange man may in fact be the only guy who can turn this around....even if it means breaking a few dishes in the process. Milquetoast ain’t gonna do it this time.
Exactly right. He should avoid a brawl with Trump in 2024. Even if RDS wins nomination in 2024, he will come out bruised and bloodied and lose in general. OTOH if RDS keeps doing good job in Florida, he will be a shoe-in for 2028, regardless if Trump wins or loses general in 2024.
If Ron Desirous ever makes it to the top of the ticket he will immediately get a taste of what President Trump has endured for seven years. The enemy media will make sure to buff his negatives to the moon and anyone who thinks there isn’t a honey or three waiting in the wings to claim that ol’ Dreamy Ron had taken certain liberties with their underage selves is DeLusional.
No. Trump beat himself with unnecessary mean tweets.
I can agree about the dog.
So let’s nominate the one guy who will lose to him.
This development is ...most unexpected.
You singled out Trump. You left out DeSantis, unless you think that DeSantis is uniparty approved.
The primary is, there is no math where anyone else can get the nomination with the race.
General, that’s up for discussion.
But there is just absolutely no math, short of a huge black swan event where Trump is not only the nominee, but that he wins the nomination by a huge margin.. it won’t even be close.
Honestly, from a pure D vs R perspective, I think RFK Jr somehow disrupting the DNC playbook, if he is able to pull it off, which I am not saying he will, because the dems will do ANYTHING to stop him if he starts to get traction... But I would say he is a FAR FAR FAR more dangerous threat as a General Candidate for the D’s than Biden by far.
I don't know if he can.
Why is that Trump's fault rather than fault of Republicans and conservatives in those states?
Anyone wanting to make real change will face the same problem.
Are you sure about that? So, it's all Trump's fault? No other players doing anything of massive consequence in the past, and none doing the same things currently? Maybe one starts with a "D," and the other sounds like the shortened name of a certain odd-toed ungulate? Sometimes they are grouped in what is called "The Swamp"?
“Poll: Donald Trump Surges to 62 Percent; Ron DeSantis Crashes to 16 Percent”

Polls are polls but if one really thought Ron D was a realistic option its not looking good.
Trump beats Biden easily in a fair matchup. But we all know that a fair election is a pipe dream, so saying RDS would beat Biden is comical.
DeSantis is making a serious tactical mistake running in 2024.
