Lawsuit filed against Washington’s semi-automatic rifle ban

A coalition of gun rights advocacy groups and individual citizens have filed a lawsuit against a new Washington state ban on firearms deemed “assault weapons” as soon as the legislation was signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee.

The complaint filed by the Firearms Policy Coalition and Second Amendment Foundation in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington argues that HB 1240’s ban on certain types of semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns violates the Second and Fourteenth Amendment.

Taking effect the moment it was signed by Inslee on April 25, HB 1240 bans more than 60 semi-automatic rifles along with other semi-automatic rifles based on either length [shorter than 30 inches] or whether it has one or more accessory or feature. Certain types of semi-automatic shotguns and handguns would also be banned. The legislation was proposed by Attorney General Bob Ferguson and sponsored by Rep. Jamie Pedersen, D-Seattle.

The lawsuit alleges that by doing so “the State of Washington has criminalized one of the most common and important means by which its citizens can exercise their fundamental right to self-defense.”

I'm glad the Plaintiffs had their Complaint ready for filing on day one. The liberal courts and the State will drag this out as long as possible since they know the law will eventually be ruled unconstitutional by a higher court. Hopefully, it will not take a trip to SCOTUS for that to happen.

Inslee and his advisors (if he has any) are dumber than rocks.

This is actually a long-term strategy by the left.

They know the bill is unconstitutional.

They also know that if Biden is reelected, they will probably have a majority on the Supreme court by 2030 and the first thing that court will do in reinstitute baby killing and then it will strike down any limitation on gun confiscation. Then all of these laws spring back into effect and no current legislator has to take responsibility.

Had to be. I can’t see how he thought he could get away with it. Thing is, if you have them you can keep them along with your very hicap mags. We have ours. LOL

I decided today that guns are really the only issue that matters. It is the only thing preventing nationwide totalitarianism from taking hold forever

Prolly a mix....I've had conversations with people that have NO idea about guns..whatsoever. I heard them say well no one should own a semi-auto rifle.

They hear "auto" and they think it's an automatic. I've known some people that could shoot a bolt action rifle just as fast as a semi-auto.

Good! But an appellate court is still likely to find the law constitutional.

My belief is illegal uncontrolled immigration is a bigger fight, now, than guns. By the end of Biden’s second term there will be 50 million illegals in this country. All on welfare all breeding all sucking the American dry. And when their anchor babies reach voting age forget it.

My 2 pesos...

Okay. They’re acting like they’re doing something about gun crime by passing a law that infringes on the 2nd. Amendment that they knew or should know would be challenged.

Yes, to both 17 and 18.
