BUCKINGHAM, Virginia — Lindsey Taylor loved running elections here.
The previous registrar had spent nearly three decades in the job, and Taylor, 37, hoped to do the same when she was first hired in 2019. She loved her staff and the volunteer poll workers, and she took pride in the detail-oriented work. She implemented dozens of new laws in 2020, ran elections through the pandemic and impressed many in the rural, conservative, tight-knit community of Buckingham County.
But then the voter fraud claims started.
In January, the GOP assumed control of the Buckingham County Electoral Board that oversees her office, and local Republicans began advancing baseless voter fraud claims that baffled her. The electoral board made it clear it wanted her out of the job.
“There were people saying that they had heard all these rumors — that the attorney general was going to indict me,” Taylor said, days after leaving the office for the last time. “Mentally, I just — I couldn’t take it anymore.”
Three weeks ago, frustrated and heartbroken, Taylor, along with two part-time staffers, quit. Their resignations followed a deputy registrar who left in February, citing the same conflict.
Years after former President Donald Trump began pushing his lies about stolen elections, communities like Buckingham County are grappling with the aftershocks: What happens when election denialism drives out the people needed to keep local democracy running?

Baseless ….. Always baseless
I think I can see her problem, here...
“She implemented dozens of new laws in 2020”

Hand counted paper ballots tallied by nothing more complex than an Excel spreadsheet using the summation function?
Are they using Dominion machines in VA?
Could some MAGA Virginians please take those jobs now? Thanks.
Boo F***** Hoo.
“What happens when election denialism drives out the people needed to keep local democracy running?”
______
I don’t know. Let’s ask HRC and the democrats who denied, and still deny, that Trump won the 2016 Presidential election.
Also,we are a representative republic and do not need to “keep local democracy” running in order to have secure elections. We need competent and honest citizens managing the voting process to assure that only eligible voters cast a ballot in our elections.
Yeah. It very much jumps off the page at you.
“and she took PRIDE”
Yep, code word that PROVES something was going on.
“Hounded by baseless voter fraud allegations...”
Come to think of it, if the accusations are ‘baseless’, why is she quitting, rather than taking legal action against those who are ‘hounding’ her?
I can think of one reason - legal action means you, yourself, can be put under oath.
When you throw a rock into a pack of dogs, the hit dog yelps
And the person who uttered this quote"
"...A lot of election officials I’ve talked to are asking themselves: why am I doing this? Why am I getting paid like a civil servant to be constantly harassed?” said David Becker, executive director of the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation and Research..."
I don't even need to look. When the Media and the Left use "Nonpartisan" in any description, it is always, ALWAYS a far Left, radical, Marxist organization.
Always and without fail. These people like the turd David Becker are the worst of the worst. They are the facilitators and enablers of fraud.
Dominion isn’t the only manufacturer.
I have wondered why the critical focus is almost always on the outcome of the presidential race. If I were looking to prove fraud, I would also look at the outcomes of the undercard races with a Freakanomics analysis. Historically, what percentage of voters vote ONLY for president? Is there a statistical difference in 2020? What were the vote totals of the lesser/local races and were any of those outcomes affected? If so, these can be investigated down to the precinct level to establish a more specific geographical record. The million votes here or there or nationally is way too broad to effectively communicate what happened. But if a City or County councilman had their race affected, it would be notable. Then build UP from there. - CBNS
There is no greater threat to “our democracy” than vote fraud.
I want a job where I can never be questioned for 30 years.
NBC Mocking Bird BS.
I thought I was reading a Babylon Bee wanna be.
Where there’s smoke there’s fire.
Democrats have been doing voter fraud for decades. Most of it done in their crime ridden corrupt blue hellhole cities and neighborhoods. Now, more high tech is possible...
Maybe rather than trying to kill the messenger, the ‘powers that be’ should come clean and look into it.
To the extent that it is possible voting should be above suspicion. That means : paper ballots , in person voting , photo ID and everything done in one day .
