What was the large crowd doing in the intersection at 4 AM? Street party or waiting for a vehicle to ambush? Both?
Especially when it's a long trip. A 12 hour trip takes longer when we make pit stops but I like to get to my destination before dark if possible.

The US needs to return to the Pax Romana - under Augustus, you could travel anywhere at anytime in the Roman Empire and it was completely peaceful - anyone who robbed, killed or otherwise interfered with travelers ended up ending up.
Left unaddressed this will continue to hijackings, kidnappings, carjacking and murder.
In Iraq the perps would go out at night and do just that. So counter teams would patrol the MSRs at night. In the daytime perp bodies were in graveyards and the river. The route would be reported Green by 8am. After a year or so the MSRs were safe at night.

About 20 years ago I often had to drive from Detroit to Minneapolis, (work related). ALWAYS timed my trip to take me through Chitgaco in the middle of the night. Always gassed up well before hitting the outskirts, too.

Maybe going to the hospital, maybe work at the hospital, maybe they could not sleep, maybe that is when you get up when you go to sleep at 7:00pm.
