"I am going to pursue — and we studied it very closely and I was getting ready to do it, pull the trigger — the long-term goal, but now it's a short-term goal, of breaking up the federal Department of Education and redistributing its functions to the states."

That was in Davenport, Iowa, last night, following an appearance by Ron DeSantis in the key primary battleground state.

So correct…..

It is always important to listen to what candidates say…and then look at what that means. Most of the time it’s red meat rhetoric.

Now, suggesting that you would not sign a budget that did “a-b-c” is something a President could do. But…as George Bush how that works out.

Just a few years ago, the school boards were a function of the cities, towns, villages of where the schools resided. PTA meetings were a function of the parents of the students. My mom used to go to them.

80% of our town’s taxes went to our schools. We had a beautiful school and a well equipped one.
It was a small school, but a good one. When highschool was over, students were prepared for university. Today, students are lucky to function mediocre in a Jr. College. As little as 30 years ago, half couldn’t read. None could think critically.

The towns worked in conjunction with the state but somehow the feds got controll. Ot sure when and how that happened but anytime the fed. gains control of a thing, it goes to seed faster than you can shake a stick at it.

“Yes I know Dems and neo-cons fought him but won’t that be true this time as well?”

He plans a nation-saving four years but it all hinges on a supporting Congress.

“Congress is more likely to dissolve the Department of Defense than they are the Department of Education.”

Not if they look at the Department of Education’s record.
They spend a humongous amount of money of their junk programs, some of which have nothing to do with education. They wield a autocratic club over states and local departments of education and universities to enforce their woke programs. And because of the Department of Education’s failures, the quality of education for America’s children has been in a continual slide downward. Count the schools with whose proficiency in reading, writing and math is in the pits.

The state Department of Education should be a desk in the property tax department that sends checks to the school districts.

The state Department of Education should be a desk computer in the property tax department that sends checks to the school districts parents.

Eff government schools and groomer teachers.

Exactly.

The Department of Education, by constant tinkering with rules that impact every teacher's, professor's and administrator's workload and ability to function, is an excellent source of bribes to Members of Congress and Senators.

Even as late as the 1970s, 2 years in Congress did not make someone a millionaire. Now, it does.

The Department of Education is part of the reason.

Congress will never, ever, give it up.

because of the Department of Education’s failures, the quality of education for America’s children has been in a continual slide downward

Do you actually believe that is of concern to the Congress? Be serious!

No, he had two years to do that. And during those two years McConnell
and Ryan were as anti Trump as Pelosi and Schumer would become.

This is a great idea... it limits the damage to children to liberal states with liberal governors. It’s a start.

..seems like he had 4 years to do that.....

Catch 22.

If he lays out a new agenda, FReepers ask why he didn't do it the first time.

You can only do so much.

Trump did more than any POTUS in my lifetime.

Trump is talking out of both sides of his mouth.

According to this article, he’s promising to do away with the Department of Education.

That clearly does not square with all these other promises he’s made to use the federal government to control education:
