Berlin said it would oppose the plan unless Brussels agrees to allow so-called synthetic fuels that can burn like gasoline and diesel but spew fewer climate-damaging emissions alongside fully electric vehicles.
Italy’s Environment Ministry said that environmental targets should be pursued in a way that avoids harming jobs and production and that electric vehicles shouldn’t be seen as the only route to zero emissions.
Meanwhile, Carlos Tavares, chief executive of Stellantis NV, whose brands include Fiat, Peugeot, Jeep and Chrysler, warned on an earnings call with reporters last month that the industry may be getting ahead of its customers.
“I don’t know if people will adapt to a new lifestyle as fast as the car companies have adapted to a new technology,” he said.

OH, the VW Supervisory Board, about half are from the union.
Zer0 Emissions [of CO2] = Death.
Just wait until the Italians have to make pasta with cricket flour!!!
P.M.Meloni rocks! For a far right wing extremist that is.
“Germany, Italy Signal They Could Block EU Combustion-Engine Ban”
Sounds good in principle, but since we BLEW UP THEIR PIPELINE, we can simply tell them to ‘go find your LNG elsewhere’, and they’ll get in line...they ALWAYS do.

You can be the first to tell them, but pls give me about a week to escape.
They will not take it well.
Where the police are British,
The cooks are Italian,
The mechanics are German,
The lovers are French and
It’s all organized by the Swiss.
Trouble in Utopia? Perhaps Germany does not wish to become the 2030 version of New Congo
I’ve driven almost 4,000 miles around Europe in the last 5 months, 1,300 miles in a Tesla Model 3. Electric cars won’t work for MOST Europeans.
I live in Texas. I could live with an electric car easier than 90% of Europeans I met. No place to park it, no place to charge it, Latitudes North of Maine (= Cold and Dark for 6 montths) and My electricity rates are 1/5th theirs.
The Numbers just don’t add up and the people MAKING cars in Europe are the people most against Electric cars, because they see it doesn’t make sense. Hybrids, sure. All electric... no sense.
But I always wanted a battery Ferrari or Porsche like the little kiddie cars!
The ICE AXIS.
I like it.
I used to work for SAP AG for 15 years. Every time SAP tried to kill its craptastic Business Warehouse software (BW) the works council in Germany would bring it back like a damned vampire zombie.

Yes, at first, but recall that messy tale of Trotsky and the ice axe.
This time it’s a good “axis”.
Fermentation emits CO2. Try banning beer and see what happens.

SAP!
OHMY!
“Like a damned vampire zombie”, so I have heard.
At the megacorp I worked for, almost everything was ordered with SAP.
A young lady alone in a small office did it all... until one day they told her goodbye???????
A senior engineer was known to have a slight understanding of the system and would occasionally push the correct buttons to get stuff, but told any and all it was not his job and hated it.
He and I retired at the same time and I have heard that a few trainees have come and left the SAP position.
The young lady quickly found another SAP job with BETTER pay.
We have been putting data into SAP since 2004, and we still can’t get most of the data out.
Sure, the accountants get the qty shipped so we can get paid, but ALL of the other stuff is all still in their somewhere.
When we train someone to get the data out, they find a new job somewhere else before they right their first report.
SAP is right in the middle of car culture Bavaria where the ICE engine was invented. The EU will pry ICE cars out of their cold, dead hands.
