A spokesperson with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 told The Ohio Star on Monday that the Fire Chief of the East Palestine Fire Department was the individual who ordered the controlled burn following the catastrophic train derailment on February 3rd.
“EPA did not order the controlled burn. The local fire chief was the incident commander who made the decision in consultation with Norfolk Southern, local law enforcement, and response officials from Ohio,” the EPA spokesperson told The Star.

Anymore, it seems like people have to have this stuff recorded, sort of like certain personages having their own people recording interviews with the mockingbird media, knowing that the mockingbirds will leave inconvenient parts on the cutting room floor.
At some point (maybe not this incident) I do expect an official to be on TV saying, “I did what I was told to do because the FBI told me that my children would die slow horrible deaths if I didn’t. But if I did do as I was told to do, I would never have to file income taxes again.”
An early report that I read said that DeWine approved the burn.
Considering the chemical involved, they did exactly what they were supposed to do.
The real burn orderers need to be precisely identified all the way up the chain.
Sounds like semantics. The Feds (including the EPA) and Norfolk Southern ‘experts’ told the local fire chief to approve the burn, and the local chief went with the ‘experts’ (always a mistake to believe/agree with the Feds). And now the Fed weasels are dumping the blame on the local guy.
The Federal Government: never take the blame when something goes bad, but always take credit when something goes right.
Hopefully you forgot the sarcasm tag. Burning chlorine or anything with chlorine in its molecule, creates dioxins. The most toxic cancer causing compounds known.
A local fire chief in a small rural town has neither knowledge or the experience to handle a train derailment involving hazardous materials. He should never been given the responsibility to manage this mess. He should have known better and told the RR that this was their mess, which it was.
The RR should have immediately taken over and called in their own responders.
Anyway, does anyone believe that the local fire chief of a department which couldn’t have been much more than a volunteer fire department, should have been left in charge/

BLEVE =boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion would probably have occured if they didn’t burn it...maybe the lesser of two evils?
I saw Dewine on tv saying “they gave us two choices, worse option and even worse option. We had to pick between the two.”
But the options were offered by the railroad who wanted the tracks cleared so they could run trains. No EPA. They probably kept away just for that reason.

False. It's how it is burned that matters. Burning PVC in combination with other materials that act like catalysts or in low oxygen conditions, like what exists in a landfill or in some incinerators may produce dioxins. Ihe fire was clearly in the open and emitting huge quantities of HCl gas. Animals getting sick and fish kills are clearly the result of HCl not dioxins.
Remember that Burning wood or gasoline creates dioxins. Check the ash in your fireplace. Just don’t panic at what you find.
That’s how it works with the national incident command system.
Every firefighter has to be on record as taken several of the courses.

You know it is a confirmed catastrophe when the finger pointing begins.
