Well, I pay tax on the money I spend. And that includes tips I leave.
Taxes suck. But Jesus (and Paul) affirmed that believers have an obligation to pay taxes.
While I am at it, I used to be amazed at how people in many other countries were so used to paying bribes (or whatever the term might be). Seems like Jesus wasn’t talking about bribes.
That would require some really exceptional service.

Good. Now that waiters make a ‘living wage’ (at least $15/hr without tips), it’s time to be like the rest of the world and STOP tipping. In Europe, credit card slips don’t even have a line for tips - in the US, at the last place I went, I had the choice of 20%, 25%, or 30%, and it was also AFTER taxes. Obviously I chose 0%...since they’re now getting a ‘living wage’, they don’t need tips.

We don’t have waiter and waitresses anymore. They are all waiters or servers.
Just like we don’t have “ have a helpful hardware man”. We have “helpful hardware folks”.

We do also. Otherwise the tip money goes into a pool from which the water gets some and the rest is divided up between other lazier wait staff as well as all the ILLEGAL ALIENS working back in the kitchen.
That differs from one restaurant to another. Its not the case in most high end restaurants. Their tip is almost like a commission, talented waiters can up-sell patrons on cocktails, more expensive wine, menu choices, etc. its probably not true atmost decent restaurants.
Don’t tip, leave a cash gift.
Most decent waiters wouldn’t work in a place like that.
One time my wife and I went to a very fancy place. The wait staff was all older black men in suits. My wife whispered that shelter a little uncomfortable being waited on that way.
I told her to look at the waiters wrist. He was wearing a Rolex. And it didn’t look fake.
She lightened up a bit after that.
High end places can easily pay several hundred dollars in tips per night. In NY…more than that.
I believe that the IRS assumes a 10% tip to all the server’s tables.
