The decision to move forward with providing the tanks marks a reversal for the Biden administration, which had been resisting pressure from Germany to send them to Ukraine.
President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced that the United States is sending 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine in its war against Russia.
The U.S. will also provide the necessary training and supplies needed to operate and run these tanks, he said.
NBC News reported the development Tuesday.
The president said sending the tanks will "enhance Ukraine’s capacity to defend its territory and achieve its strategic objectives" because they are "the most capable tanks in the world.”
"That’s what this is about — helping Ukraine defend and protect Ukrainian land. It is not an offensive threat to Russia, there is no offensive threat to Russia," the president said.
During a background call previewing Biden’s remarks, senior administration officials said the announcement is “very much a continuation of our effort to provide Ukraine with the capabilities that they need to continue to better defend themselves.”
“And it’s also in keeping with that representative of a long term, long term commitment that we have to Ukraine’s defense needs,” a senior administration official said.

You’re making some really big assumptions.
The 31st one is the display model, to aide in sales. Would you buy one sight unseen with out first kicking the treads?
Biden and progressives are insane depopulationists
Yup. He was playing Biden, hoping he’d back him.
You don’t matter
Huge mistake. Putin ain’t gonna take much more.
The stage is being set for the man of perdition
Be in this world but not of this world.
May need to keep some tanks here to stop the draft riots.
Supporters of Ukraine don’t give two shits about America. This only makes America weak against real enemies. I have yet to hear anyone explain America’s interest in Ukraine. How does sending money and weapons to Ukraine improve any American’s life? How does it make America stronger? It doesn’t.
That guy’s career is over. You can make out the top of the patch beneath the flag, his ear shape, hands, and he is married. Not a smart move.
For it to be a game changer, you have to understand the game.
Everybody knows you don’t
I was being facetious to the last remark, dumbass.
Sorry I didn’t label for you.
Ukraine was the cause of this war, as a proxy for many others.
Clear?
It’s Bidens war by proxy. Mainly for covering up his and his spawn’s criminal activities. And making money for Lizzy Chainey and and others.
Like "The Charge of the Light Brigade", which was known at the time a great blunder and madness! You are a real piece of work.
I hope you will enjoy that can ‘o sunshine when it heads your childrens way.
Russia has plenty,so enjoy!
This mess in Ukraine needs to end. Russia screwed up and needs to seek peace. And Ukraine needs some accountability for its sins.
As for war, Russia poses zero military threat to anyone except maybe to a few of the old USSR republics. Russia does pose a nuclear threat, but that has existed for decades—including when the US engaged Russia in other proxy wars. Even during the Cold War.
As for us, I am fed up with financing a war which has little national security interests to this country. Ukraine may have loads of significance to NATO and energy ramifications for Europe. But that’s their problem
“You should probably check that statement (I sincerely doubt you have any ‘expertise whatsoever’), unless you claim equivalent or more strategic wisdom than Alexander, Napoleon or von Clausewitz.”
Alexander was dead at 32, Napoleon overextended himself, and as for Clausewitz he was brilliant and were he alive he’d not be siding with the Russians like he did from 1812 to 1813.
Send Joe!
