The decision to move forward with providing the tanks marks a reversal for the Biden administration, which had been resisting pressure from Germany to send them to Ukraine.
President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced that the United States is sending 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine in its war against Russia.
The U.S. will also provide the necessary training and supplies needed to operate and run these tanks, he said.
NBC News reported the development Tuesday.
The president said sending the tanks will "enhance Ukraine’s capacity to defend its territory and achieve its strategic objectives" because they are "the most capable tanks in the world.”
"That’s what this is about — helping Ukraine defend and protect Ukrainian land. It is not an offensive threat to Russia, there is no offensive threat to Russia," the president said.
During a background call previewing Biden’s remarks, senior administration officials said the announcement is “very much a continuation of our effort to provide Ukraine with the capabilities that they need to continue to better defend themselves.”
“And it’s also in keeping with that representative of a long term, long term commitment that we have to Ukraine’s defense needs,” a senior administration official said.

So if you want to look for corruption involving US aid, you need to look in DC.
Ukraine did nothing to generate a war?
Hahaha Hahaha! You should pursue a career in stand up if you aren’t already. Hands down dumbest thing I’ve read today. You must be just joking.
Probably Egyptian models. The Egyptian Army is equipped with Abrams tanks.
Thanks for the technical information.
Well, there’s 31 Abrams tanks that we will never see again. They will be pummeled by artillery like everything else that the deep state Ukies put out there.
Your sarcasm is delivered very well.
Every day this election stealing prick is in office is another insult.
This is so dumb. Besides giving away technology and design, I don’t see how they can get another army up to speed on integrating tanks into their infantry operations. It’s not like switching out for a different rifle or rocket system. And besides, these tanks are really heavy for that ground over there.
This is going to end up embarrassing.
The Leo is a MUCH better option for Ukraine because the MTU is used by nearly everyone in that area.
Ukraine has folks that can work on a diesel. There are many allies who are closer that can assist in sustainment.
A modern MBT without sustainment will rapidly turn into a static display on the side of the road.
Heck, beyond our organic mechanics, when we deploy we have guys from GD come with us down range to help sustain these machines!
And so it goes.
Yep. I was originally commissioned as an Armor officer back in '91. The Armor Officer Basic course was 4-5 months long, and that was to teach lieutenants how to maintain and fight an Abrams platoon as well as some other basic core stuff that wasn't specifically related to tank warfare (i.e. M9 pistol qualification, UCMJ, etc.)
Of course, even after that 4-5 month course, it was assumed the graduate would be going to an active unit for continued OJT, with an established organizational level motor pool and a direct support shop for higher level maintenance.
31 tanks is a battalion by old soviet organizational doctrine. Not sure about now, but when I was in, a US Armor battalion had 58 tanks (4 companies with 14 tanks, and two tanks in the battalion HQ for the commander and S3). The soviet line battalions had IIRC, 3 companies of 10 + the battalion commander for 31.
Sure, our long standing commitment since Hunter has been on the take, and good old Joe made sure they would get the billion dollars to stop looking at the corruption of Old senile Joe and Hunter
“I wish a reporter would ask Biden what our response would be when Russia uses some sort of nuclear weapon in Ukraine.”
Replace “Ukraine” in the question with “DC”.
Some "volunteers".
German Foreign Minister declares war against Russia

That probably explains the odd number 31?
You should probably check that statement (I sincerely doubt you have any ‘expertise whatsoever’), unless you claim equivalent or more strategic wisdom than Alexander, Napoleon or von Clausewitz.

This is going to lead to nuclear war.
