A tense moment on the House of Representatives floor resulted in a Republican member physically lunging at another who then had to be restrained from further escalation.
The scuffle happened between Reps-elect Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., after the 14th House speaker vote failed.
Gaetz was discussing with Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., the possibility of backing him in the next vote and appeared to mouth the worth "committee."
Gaetz is currently on the House Armed Services Committee, which is chaired by Rogers.
McCarthy appeared to agree and returned to his seat. Rogers, having witnessed the interaction, then walked up to Gaetz’s row and made a move toward him.
Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., intervened and physically restrained Rogers, pulling him back by his shoulders in full view of C-SPAN’s cameras.
Rogers could then be seen appearing to yell: "I won’t forget this!"
In the 15th and final vote, McCarthy was officially elected speaker with Gaetz voting "present."

WOW- Inspector Clouseau you got me!
Since you are a monthly giver, I know you have honor.
Bet is on and you get to call the winner.
If you say I lose, the Country is the loser, but I'll donate another $100 this quarter to FR.
I may be naive, but I think the gang of 20 is going to grab Kevin by his mouse nuts, and twist...we'll see.
BTW, I know you are hoping to lose the bet, and get a win for our side, but the pubbie congress critters have a unique knack of disappointing the great unwashed.
If they screw us this time, I'm done, finito...F'm.
“You are wise to remind us to not count our chickens on this before they actually hatch.”
On War Room today, Frank Gaffney said exactly what I did. He doesn’t trust KM to keep any of his agreements.
“MayflowerMadam, no one with any intelligence expects KM to keep any of his agreements.”
Apparently, about 90% of FReepers do.
He’s a snake.
From House history.
On May 12, 1854, during a House session on the Kansas-Nebraska Act, Edmundson was arrested by the Sergeant-at-Arms.
After Ohio representative Lewis D. Campbell addressed an increasingly bitter and violent House nearly thirty-six hours into the session, Edmundson reportedly began unbuttoning his vest as if reaching for a weapon and attempted to attack Campbell, but was restrained by other members and arrested.
Thanks, a very interesting article. Did you notice that the article never calls a southern ‘pro-slavery’ rep/senate a democrat? It did identify a Maine rep as a democrat though. The gymnastics of language.
I sure as heck hope you are right, and that I’ll have to help out FR even more! Cheers!
As you probably know, War Room is my go-to show, and has been since it came out. I've watched Mike Davis, John Fredricks, and others predict this same backstab on the actual rules vote from McCarthy in the last 24 hours.
However, they are not always right on there. Fredricks and Davis have been on there most every day saying they were certain that McCarthy would have to bow out, for example.
And I may be wrong about the rules vote, but I have been predicting McCarthy would ultimately be elected the Speaker, all this while. My only concern was whether he would partner with the hardline Republicans for his final votes, or the Democrats.
Thankfully he chose wisely. But, he was wounded quite a bit by this. He won't be charging out the starting gate, so to speak. He will sort of be crawling out on his two knees.
Their goal, as Trump has been suggesting as the main reason to explain his support of McCarthy, should now be for them to appear unified. To pick McCarthy up from his knees, where he can at least limp out the starting gate, instead of falling back on his face.
But, we will see. The folks on War Room are professional prognosticators, and typically correct. I think you are wise to listen to their counsel as you do, as do I, and probably why we most often agree on things. But in this case, I am at least HOPING they are wrong LOL. Have a great day.
And McCarthy sure is beholdin’ to Trump now. If PDJT wins in 2024, it’ll be good capital for him to have.
I’m glad the Rebels stood up, but I don’t like Gaetz. I also don’t care for Summner. I like Sherman.
Nah, Rogers is a real man. Gaetz is a lazy twat who accomplishes nothing other than getting his ugly mug on talk shows.
Thanks for pointing that out.
bazaar - where you buy stuff
bizarre - stuff you don’t buy
Wow. what was Rogers thinking then!
OK.
Understand MTG had been saying that and presenting arguments along that line.
I don’t see Rogers lunging at Gaetz. How am I not seeing what everyone else seems to see?
What I see is Hudson grabbing Rogers. I see Rogers talking with Gaetz. Maybe even shouting at him. Maybe strong words were exchanged. Maybe threats? I see him leaning forward, not lunging. I am not seeing anything that would warrant what looks to me like Hudson grabbing/attacking/assaulting Rogers.
Maybe better audio would change my view of what happened.
I won’t abandon the truth just because the narrative is one that I favor. It looks to me like the outcome was exactly what MAGA needed. I like that. But I did not see Rogers lunging.
Are all of us MAGA supporters being brainwashed the same as the sheeple are? Just because it’s something we favor?
