UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:
Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.
Original story below:
For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.
He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.
Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.
A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

“But you do, and you have.”
Never, ever have I.
Doesn’t prove that. It’s a long fight and it doesn’t require winning every battle. Forcing them to work for it is a good thing but I suppose at some point you have to show movement or they won’t try and work for it. In future negotiations now the McCarthy wing knows that they are gettable so they’re still involved in all of the negotiations. It strengthens your position in the future. At least it can. Also, this gives Trump some leverage win the deep state pricks as he has sway over the never Kevinites. Primary season starts around debt ceiling talks. Will Kevin mess around when The Gaetz card can be played? It doesn’t have to be seen as a total loss. At least there was a fight this time. Good start.
“a waste of a few precious days”
Oh yeah, like the Republicans needed a few more days...
To do what exactly.
Lol.
Romneycrats, all
And kiss goodby to any investigations and follow up prosecutions and jail times.
Open boarders....funding Ukraine.....and big pharma off the hook.
Democrats recount ballots until the “right” (uh, left) candidate wins.
Republicans are better, they keep holding elections until the “right” candidate wins!
Talking is important. This whole performance was a good thing, as it got people talking and paying attention to the issues. There will at least be lots of noise if McCarthy does not stick to everything he agreed to.
Political maneuvering is beyond our control, but the issues were discussed far and wide, which doesn’t usually happen. So I think some progress was made, if only in people’s heads for now.
Not MTG’s finest moment.
535 random taxpayers would do a better job in congress.
When the chamber cheered Gaetz’s present vote it sent a sign that I interpreted as “yay! He didn’t say Trump!”
What i saw is just more of what I’ve been seeing. The war is over we lost. China won Soft-WW3 and the leftists won Soft-CW2.
Now we’ll be scattered to the 4 winds
McCarthy will soon backstab Trump again
There just aren't enough votes to vote anyone Speaker outside McCarthy.
I'm just not seeing the problem here.
The house cannot do any business without a sitting speaker, a couple years of no new legislation would do the country a world of good!
The reporting is interesting.
As has been frequently pointed out in the past,
Pelosi quickly caved to the farleft.
The media does not describe it that way, however.
McCarthy takes a week to cave to the far right.
The media makes it their headine.
Is that because of the time factor?
or is caving one direction somehow
more newsworthy than the other direction?
It’s not backstabbing when Trump wants him to do it.
We know why.
Just remember, FReepers:
Maybe Trump likes to be surrounded by Snakes.
He had a lot of Snakes in his White House
Coming this January
Speaker of the House
The mini-series
The threat of Trump’s Speakership almost certainly pushed him over the victory line.
Trump is a no bullshit guy. Wish we had more of them (non-b.s. politicians) in D.C.
No need to change the Constitution (USC) since the USC is not the problem.
The problem is the corrupt politicians working under the USC and the uneducated public who don’t understand the USC.
