UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:

Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.

Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.

Original story below:

For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.

He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.

Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.

Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.

A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

“ Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.”

Now hold McCarthy to what he agreed to.

After hearing Jeffries’ horrendous speech, I’d say what the heck, give Kevin a chance. The worst GOPer is better than these divisive, self-righteous lying socialist pukes.

A series of late night calls from POTUS 45 was probably the only thing that could have convinced Gaetz et al. to vote Present.

Which proves they don’t have a shred of conservatism in them.

Nothing short of a Convention of States will bring about any meaningful reforms. That will take another generation or two. Embrace the Suck.

@LauraLoomer

Shut the hell up Kevin!

You have RUINED the Republican Party and you have made a career out of letting us all down by stabbing us in the back.

Can't believe we are stuck with this criminal as Speaker of the House.

I am so done with this feckless party.

I would have liked to see them remain in session all weekend before lowering the threshold to 216.

She voted “present”
Doesn’t make her a “phony”.

Convention of states? Do you think there would be more people that would vote in the right way than the wrong way?

They didn't “lower the threshold”.
The threshold automatically lowers with more “present” votes.
Enough voting already.

So, are we all supposed to be jumping up and down for joy now?
If they only knew how ugly this govt has become for ‘we the people’.

You don't gotta jump up and down or not jump up and down.
Just accept reality and move on.

Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy and Ronna Romney McDaniel.

Meet the new bosses. Same as the old bosses.

"/ Lesser of Two Weevils."

But you still end up with evil weevils. Welcome to the new boss...the same as the old boss. The guy who was captured on tape talking to Liz Cheney, telling her that he would urge Trump to resign after January 6th, is now the best hope of the slim majority in the Republican Congress? My ass.

We all knew McCarthy would be the inevitable winner, but it still amazes me how far down our govt has sunk, even just in my lifetime.

The holdouts were holdouts for differing political reasons and never had even a shred of a plan to get anyone else in the chair. So, maybe I’m cynical but it seems to me this was all about grabbing a political spotlight instead of a real effort, and therefore a waste of a few precious days.
