Ukraine and Poland forge ‘special relationship’ as war brings neighbours closer

Journalist Anna Budyńska was among the grassroots army of Polish volunteers who rushed to help Ukrainian refugees as they began crossing the border in February to escape Russia’s invasion.

At first, she and her partner donated money and collected food and blankets for refugees arriving in Warsaw. But she wanted to do more to understand those whom she was helping and decided to learn Ukrainian.

“I suddenly realised that I had always loved to travel to western Europe, India or Mexico, but I had never visited Ukraine, knew nothing about Ukrainian culture and only a little bit about its history that was taught at school,”

Polish historian Maciej Franz said 2022 would be remembered as “a special year of integration” between “two nations that were isolated from each other by politics half a century ago, and even earlier by hatred and hostility, which was the result of the nationalism that raged between the mid-19th and 20th centuries”.

He said his country was helping Ukraine “because we know what it’s like to be under [Russian] occupation and how terrible it can be”.

... About 1.3mn Ukrainians lived in Poland before Russia’s full-scale invasion in February, and the number has more than doubled since then.

Their presence has given Poles a new sense of kinship with and respect for their neighbours.

...“We share a distinct fatalism and the same history of Russian imperialism, so many Polish people feel that the same kind of Russian aggression could once more await us,”

... Since February, Poland’s military and political support has been unwavering, even after Poland and Nato attributed an accidental missile strike that killed two Polish farm workers last month to the Ukrainian army. In the aftermath, Polish prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that “it is in our best interest to help Ukraine”.

Serious question; Poland and Ukraine are not “friends”.

Poland and Ukraine both detest Putin/Russians for good reason.

Poles show unwavering support to Ukraine despite missile strike

They are being backfilled as we speak, with Korean K2’s (first shipment arrived in Poland Dec 6), and Abrams (first units arrived in October). A ship full of Abrams and etc gear departed for Poland @2 weeks ago.

You’re quite right...Poland was the enemy circa 1944...wouldn’t even recognize them as a country. I have an old NYS newspaper that tells the truth.

You’re living in a twilight world of fantasy if you think the Poles are going to ethnically cleanse tens of millions of Ukrainians and no one will say anything against it.

Russia is winning and for the first time in history, the West is out-gunned.

LOL, winning and strategically withdrawing!

Even Russian propagandists wonder, if everything is great, why are russian soldiers retreating?

“Ukraine and Poland forge ‘special relationship’ as war brings neighbours closer”

With the troop call up in Poland, that relationship is likely to get much ‘closer’.

“I predict that Poland will be the first NATO nation that OPENLY moves military forces into western Ukraine. Any takers?”

They will, but they’ll be on their own, with few weapons, as Poland already disposed of most of their weapons in Ukraine. But they’ll still have human wave attacks they can use!

“The West has intentionally deindustrialized itself as a matter of liberal policy.”

Both sides get credit for it. The Leftists used their ‘friends’ in labor, government, and lawyers, to make it super-expensive to manufacture anything, and the conservatives said “Fine, we’ll move everything to Mexico and China”...at which point the Leftists joined them after being bought off under Clinton.

...and it wasn’t the end of the world for the West, as all they had to do was behave and not try to TAKE OVER THE WORLD, as that can be a bit difficult without any factories to speak of.

“Disposed of most of their weapons”

And how do you know that? Do you have inventories from the Polish MOD?

I’m surprised that the countries surrounding Ukraine aren’t partitioning Ukraine among themselves by ethnic ties. Zelenski seems *ell bent on a forever war which purges Ukraine of its population and which will put Ukraine under control of global corporations that support US domination. A US-controlled Ukraine would be a threat to its neighbors. JMHO

“The problem of unwanted ethnics is easily solved by ethnic cleansing. Nobody is going to say a thing once the ‘good guys’ are doing it.”

Reminds me of the old Yugoslavia.

What Happened: We went in there to prevent ethnic cleaning of Croats and Muslims.
What Resulted: We caused millions of Serbs to be ‘cleansed’.

They are replacing them with South Korean and US tanks: 2 of the best tanks made - the ones they handed over where obsolete.

The Ukrainians are doing it, the Turks are doing it, the Albanians are doing it. It is a matter of geopolitical affiliation. Ukraine is expendable. Its only purpose is to be a thorn in the Russian butt. Poland is supposed to replace France and Germany in the EU. It needs more real estate to qualify.

Poland is a buffer same as Ukraine

To a avoid Russian meddling or invasion, killing Russia in the east is prudent

Yup, and Ukraine is filled with combat veterans with western supplied anti-tank weapons.

Genocide is taking place all the time
It is only bad when the wrong people are doing it.

Yes, my point is, you generally don't hand over weapons to a country you're planning to invade.
