McCarthy: People Haven’t Read Rail Strike Bill
Breitbart ^ | 11/30/2022 | IAN HANCHETT

Posted on 11/30/2022 6:33:41 AM PST by ChicagoConservative27

On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) accused President Joe Biden of lying when he claimed that a rail strike had been averted back in September and now is begging Congress to avert a strike and “take the bill up tomorrow when people have not even read it.”

McCarthy said President Biden called the leaders to the White House because he “intentionally misled us. He said he had a rail strike solved…in September, when he knew that he didn’t want the American public to know before the election that he didn’t. Remember what he told us that inflation was transitory. Remember he told us that the influx of illegals was seasonal, that the Taliban wouldn’t take over Afghanistan, again and again. But now, we’re just weeks away from the busiest season of the entire year of Christmas and our whole infrastructure could shut down based upon this administration’s negotiation with the rail, this pro-union individual who has failed once again. And he’s asking government to step in to try to solve this problem. But he’s begging the House and Senate to do it, just to take the bill up tomorrow when people have not even read it.”

Complaining with no solutions or actions. I’d discipline my kids for doing the same.

The fact he even “trust” Biden shows he’s not up for the job. Truth is, he knew and now is just covering his ass. I’m so sick of the RINOs playing Charlie Brown who got played by Lucy and expect us to keep believing it.

It's 4 pages, and the 'meat' is one page within it:

https://docs.house.gov/billsthisweek/20221128/BILLS-117hjres-PIH-rail.pdf

The problem is not reading it, but understanding it, as things go in the district of corruption these days is to point to other documents, some which may point to thousands of others. The interweaving and pointers makes it moot to read anything.

My reading of the content of this bill is that they are just saying the 12 unions just kiss and makeup, and follow the already failed agreements.

12 Republicans in the Senate voted for the bill to send to the House.

Who?

The usual suspects................

I gather this one is also involved, only adding another 7 pages total (perhaps 4 with content).

What should happen and people like McCarthy should be advocating this solution, instead of using congress to force a settlement, is Biden should call the leaders of the Unions and Railroads to the White House and tell them, this thing gets settled today or you don’t leave the White House because if you fail to agree on something I will impose a solution neither one of you will like.

IMO, Biden like always is playing politics, he wants a strike so he can say the Congress failed to get anything done.

Biden and anyone with any economic sense at all knows we are heading into a recession and maybe a bad recession, which Biden will blame it all on Congress and the rail strike if one happens.

We have to pass the bill to find out what is in the bill.

The guy is playing it perfectly. Republicans shouldn’t openly oppose the bill on merit because a strike would be devastating, but they can simply stand aside and let the Democrats deal with it. Perhaps the GOP can all vote “present” or something like that.

The workers are not asking for more money, but for better working conditions. They can be called into work at any time, no regular schedule. How do you plan doctor’s appts, or any personal issue that needs to be dealt with?

I understand that Congress “can” do this stuff. But, if the unions don’t want it...

I thought the Democrats were all about Unions.

My guess is that about 1% of the Congress critters understand what is in this bill and the unions’ posiition.

The problem with your scenario is that the President can’t impose a settlement on the railroads and the unions. Only Congress can.

Why do they need a new bill? Taft Hartley allows POTUS to require a 90 day cooling off period prior to a strike if the nation’s security or economic well being is affected.

Here is the clause that they will vote on:

4 (a) IN GENERAL.—Consistent with the purposes of
5 the Railway Labor Act (45 U.S.C. 151 et seq.) to avoid
6 any labor dispute that threatens substantially to interrupt
7 interstate commerce to a degree such as to deprive any
8 section of the country of essential transportation service,
9 the most recent tentative agreements, side letters, and
10 local carrier agreements entered into by the covered par-
11 ties that have not been ratified before the date of enact-
12 ment of this joint resolution (including tentative agree-
13 ments, side letters, and local carrier agreements that have
14 failed ratification) shall be binding on such covered parties
15 to such unresolved disputes, and shall have the same effect
16 as though arrived at by agreement of such covered parties
17 under the Railway Labor Act (45 U.S.C. 151 et seq.).

The next clause says, in essence, the parties are free to come to their own agreement(s).

So, this is the government shoving the terms of the contract onto the unions who did not agree to it.

I was alive during the ATC strike and I remember what Reagan did. But, the railroads are not federal employees. I guess AMTRAK Joe could do what Truman did. This will be fun to watch.

Honestly, the part of this that I like is that Warren Buffet will lose a ton of money if there is a strike. The Dems won’t let THAT happen.

(Keep your gas tank filled.)
