After five people were shot dead in a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colo., Matthew Grigsby thought about Club 501.
It was the only gay bar in Redding, a Northern California city of 93,000 that, like Colorado Springs, is deeply religious and conservative.
There, Grigsby felt comfortable holding hands or dancing with another man.
Club 501 closed this summer, leaving Grigsby and other LGBTQ people without a place where they could be themselves. The news from Club Q in Colorado Springs was another gut punch.
"There's no safe place anywhere," Grigsby, 53, said, his voice shaking. "It doesn't matter where we are or what we do. People are going to come for us."
The Colorado Springs attack comes at a time when hateful rhetoric against LGBTQ people — especially from Republican politicians and conservative pundits — is on the rise.

Made me smile...
It’s Sodomy, and these are the people outside Lot’s door.
The more we tolerate sin, the more we will get. As has been demonstrated over the last 60 years or so.
They must be misinformed, given that the killer is a gay dude who was rejected at the bar.
My feelings exactly.
I refuse to be supportive & to tell them ‘their way’ is OK.
I leave them alone-—and I do NOT seek their company. I have avoided their businesses when I realized what they were.
I will not ever be supportive-—especially when they have such an ‘in your face’ attitude.
.
There are millions of people who feel as you do. I am one of them.
“There’s a man with a gun over there...
Telling me I got to beware...”
Reminder to LAT: The murderer was not a MAGA patriot, but a co-pervert of the dead.
That doesn’t make it right, just a fact.
When LGBT gather in public places they need to have some security in place.
Good.
How come “being themselves” always involves overt, public sexuality? That’s pathological. They are nothing more than their basest instincts.
Indeed.

.....proving that, without demons to blame, this “identity” ceases to exist.

Define “hateful rhetoric”. Could that be anything like, there’s no such thing as “a homosexual”?
If it’s the Christians’ fault that a gay club in Colorado was shot up by a “non-binary” and the gay club in Florida was shot up by a Muslim ... you might be a Democrat.
It’s the in your face pushing with all these oh so very extra special look at meeee! groups.
Why did it close? Did they make money? It could be the business was losing money. Now, why not go down to San Fran and enjoy agay club there...?
“I have avoided their businesses when I realized what they were.”
Any store or restaurant that has the “Anti-Christian” flag (gay pride flag) we don’t go in and we do not give them our business. Period!
Why would I give my hard earned money to a company that wants me destroyed?
“The goal now is to marginalize Christianity & heterosexuality.”
Sure looks that way.
A very hateful homo that posts on my local liberal newsrag comment section is alway ranting about Chrisitianity.
That is a constant even when not one mention of it is made.
Some years ago I mentioned what the Old Testament said about his kind and he went berserk.
