Grassley has already filed for reelection bid in 2028

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the upper chamber’s second oldest member, has filed paperwork to run for reelection in 2028.

Grassley, 89, won reelection last week to his eighth term, and he would be 95 years old at the time of the 2028 elections and a centenarian when that term ends.

The Iowa Republican filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission on Wednesday.

The filing does not necessarily mean Grassley will run for a ninth term.

Political figures are required to file the paperwork in order to participate in certain campaigning activities, including if they want to raise more money than what is reasonably needed to “test the waters” about running.

Only sociopaths want to work after 70+. I’m in my 40’s and would quit working if someone just gives me money.

One can have hobbies, and/or one can need to work...but this is BS.

If there’s a minimum age for Congress, there should be a maximum age. As well as term limits.

I’m reminded of a Star Trek Next Gen episode “Unification” where Spock meets with a Senator Pardek who has served in the Romulan Senate for 90 years. That was science fiction, but it looks like we’re not far behind in reality.

Amateurs announce their retirement and then screw us in how they vote for a year(Blunt). Grassley’s an old pro so he’s going to collect money for 5 years, then announce retirement and screw us for a year.

My mother-in-law is 96 and still doing pretty well both physically and mentally but no way is she up to actually working a full-time job: so the question has to be who is pulling Grassley’s strings? (Heck, I’m 69 and in decent (IMHO) shape but somebody would have to pull my strings if I wanted my shoulders to work a full time job…)

Raising money for his successor, who he’d like to be his grandson Pat Grassley, who is currently the Iowa State House of Representatives Speaker.

I wouldn’t expect a master painter to quit just because he turned 70…

Who in the GOP ranks could have worked to prevent this: Grassley beginning another term? He is preventing younger people from getting that experience.

I guess he’s a fine senator, but yeah, they really need to develop the “next gen” of talent. Congress, especially the Senate, begins to resemble a nursing home.

Go ahead…keep voting in fossils.

This freakin’ guy wants to be in the Senate until everyone else has died of old age.

The people in his state should be ashamed.
