Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told "FOX News Sunday" that Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin is wrong that it is time for the U.S. to "imagine" a world without our longtime alliance with Saudi Arabia.

"The senator has got it completely wrong. This is about putting the American people first, and to put the American people first means a deep, important security relationship with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as we've had for decades," Pompeo said.

It may be that The House of Saud is important but it is the purview of the President to decide who is and isn’t important. It is the job of the SOS to make what the president wants to be important be important. Anything else undercuts the POTUS. Even now that he is a private citizen it is unseemly to take any position different than the president he worked for. Pompeo will never be president and will never make the kind of decisions that he is talking about now as if he knew better than the president he worked for.
