Climate activists glued themselves to Johannes Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring at a Dutch museum on Thursday (Oct 27) in the latest stunt targeting famous artworks, but the painting was undamaged.
Three men were arrested after the attack at The Hague's Mauritshuis museum on the 1665 masterpiece which has inspired a bestselling novel and a Hollywood film.
The trio were Belgian, one 42-year-old and two 45-year-olds. "They remain in custody and are being questioned," The Hague police said. Social media images showed a man wearing a "Just Stop Oil" T-shirt gluing his head to the painting, while another glued his hand to the wall and a third emptied out a tin of what appeared to be tomato soup.

This is why we can’t have nice things.
Curious how they never deface African, Mestizo, or Native American artists. They use oil paint too.
What do they use to make that glue? Horse hooves or oil?
People need to just start knocking these poontangs out.
Not many people like that are probably in art museums though...
They need to be killed as an example. But where their blood won’t ruin the paintings.

I agree, these crimes need to be harshly dealt with. These are crimes that strike at the heart of our heritage and way of life. These are not petty crimes like shoplifting. This is terrorism.
No, environmental wacko is too good for them. They are environmental Talibans.
Not being familiar with the painting, I thought they had actually attacked a girl with a pearl earring, which wouldn’t surprise me.
I like what happened to them at the Volkswagen headquarters. They glued themselves to the floor. The VW folks shut off the lights and heat and went home, leaving them stuck without food or a way to go potty.

I don’t like Just Stop Oil but I don’t like that Vermeer either.
I’m curious (well not really) what Scarlett Johnasen thinks? She played the title character of this painting in a movie about it’s creation.
It is one of the most luminous and BEAUTIFUL paintings in the world. Vermeer was without compare.
I think it’s terrible they are destroying priceless works of art. I wouldn’t want them to do this to the work of an artist I hated.

Now that I see it, I recognize it. I didn’t know the name. And it is beautiful, something these philistines wouldn’t understand.

This all ends the moment some security guard decides to go into business for himself, bodyslams one of the protesters and steps on his or her pencil neck until the police arrive. Not really because of the violence, but because the whole movement will be shown as easily thwarted clowns. There is nothing that ruins the spirit of a public stunt quite like a bigger stunt sucking all the oxygen out of the room.
I don’t really even care about art, a lot of that stuff is just state sanctioned money laundering, but some thick-necked Croatian guy stomping on a hippy’s neck... that I would pay to see.
