DeSantis endorses O'Dea in Colorado Senate race, bucking Trump
DC Examiner ^ | 10/23/2022 | David Drucker

Posted on 10/23/2022 2:25:57 PM PDT by Alter Kaker

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is recording a robocall for underdog Senate contender Joe O’Dea, a boost for the Colorado Republican after former President Donald Trump urged grassroots conservatives to abandon his campaign.

“Hello this is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. America needs strong leadership and desperately. That’s why I’m endorsing Joe O’Dea for U.S. Senate. Colorado, please vote for Joe O’Dea,” DeSantis says in the robocall, a recording of which was provided to the Washington Examiner on Sunday by the O’Dea campaign. “I’ve watched Joe from a distance. And I’m impressed.”

In endorsing O’Dea, DeSantis is charting a course separate from Trump in the midterm elections and stoking speculation the two Republican heavyweights are on a collision course in the upcoming 2024 GOP presidential primary. Just days earlier, the former president lashed out at O’Dea, calling him a “RINO,” which stands for “Republican in Name Only,” and criticizing him for speaking openly about their disagreements.

Running in a blue state that rarely elects Republicans statewide and trailing Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) in public opinion polls despite a favorable political environment, O’Dea’s strategy of distancing himself from Trump and taking centrist positions on certain issues is sensible. Bennet led O’Dea 49.5% to 42% in the RealClearPolitics average and has topped his Republican challenger in all six of the most recent surveys.

Be aware of this. MAGA doesn’t like a cheap plug by the Fl Gov. We will remember.

“DeSantis has no more obligation to display loyalty to Trump than Trump does to DeSantis”

And the rest of us are under no obligation to refrain from criticizing him for it.

“Come on, man. Disloyalty to Trump? It’s not about Trump.”

With all due respect, I believe you’re naive if you think that. DeSantis is ambitious. There’s no real reason for him to get involved in this race other than to show his independence from Trump. Of all the Republica Senate candidates he could have chosen to support, he goes and chooses this one. DeSantis understands the optics and chose to make this gesture as a subtle swipe at Trump’s leadership.

People are going to be surprised when the real DeSantis reveals himself. He already has to those who are paying attention. Kind of reminds me of Cruz back in 2015-2016. Remember how we were told that Cruz and Trump were working together in some grand alliance? We all remember how that worked out.

By 2024, there may not be enough left of The Republic to save in 12 years!

"Right, maybe he should avoid anything that isn’t safe and cower in his basement."

Maybe he shouldn't endorse back-stabbing leftist republicans, which might lose him Conservative voters such as myself.

A Democratic vote is better than a RINO vote?

Apparently, this is the only way that one could like Joe-—from a distance. But, I root for every D to lose, this year anyway.

“O’Dea has distanced himself from Trump on matters relating to the 2020 election and has expressed regret that Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court.
Folks,
Those are a couple of specific issues to take a stand on. Pretty defining.”

Agreed

RINO is as RINO does.

Seems, like he’s taking Turtle’s stance on “electability”.
Ron may have some ‘splainin’ to do.

Honest to Goodness Conservatives win when they run as . . . surprise! . . . Honest to Goodness Conservatives.

>> The point is that he’s only made 2 endorsements and one of them is the worst senate candidate this cycle. <<

FROM BREITBART:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has endorsed and stumped for Republicans in many critical House, Senate, and governor races.

DeSantis stumped with Turning Point Action in August and September to boost turnout for the governor and Senate Republican candidates in key battleground states. This includes Senate Republicans such as J.D. Vance in Ohio, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), and Blake Masters in Arizona.

The Florida governor has also backed and campaigned for many gubernatorial candidates such as Kari Lake in Arizona, Tim Michels in Wisconsin, Republican Derek Schmitt in Kansas, Mark Ronchetti in New Mexico, and Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania.

I agree. If DeSantis is "impressed" by this then he gets to demerits from me.

And so you ASS-U-ME DeSantis approves of everything the GOP candidate in CO thinks, and on that flimsy basis hand the CO Senate seat to the Dems in CO, AND rubber stamp the smear of DeSantis with your own approval.

A trifecta for the authors of the article! And you don't even realize that you're being used.

“DeSantis has the Jeb Bush endorsement.”

Yeah. Handed to him like a ticking time bomb.

Jeb endorsing DeSantis was a dirty, no good Establishment trick to poison DeSantis; like gifting Superman with a bust of himself carved out of kryptonite. He certainly didn’t go panhandling for it.

ANYBODY who thinks DeSantis (other than as a matter of paper-thin politesse) regards it as some sort of feather in his cap isn’t paying close attention to what makes DeSantis tick.

It’s ABSOLUTELY NOT RINO endorsements; other than that they may bring in some meager RINO support at the polls, he’d be perfectly pleased if they’d just refrain.

I’ll be completely honest with you. After being played a stooge by the various incarnations of the Republican Party for fifty years, I don’t trust a damn one of them. Stats will confirm that once DeSantis reaches DC he has perhaps a 5% chance of remaining unchanged. At least he’s savvy enough with the other lying GOP members so as not to played the total rube and get taken on the same ride Trump did. Once DeSantis arrives in DC he has an 80% chance of becoming a total Uniparty sell out. Not my figures, stats are stats.

Wrong. The law has to be Constitutional. You can pass a law and it can go into effect for a little while, but when it hits the Supreme Court, it is decided if it is Constitutional or not. Roe v. Wade was never passed as a law but people accepted it as such. This SC said that SC got it wrong.

Another case in point. Maryland passed a law that penalized only one entity - WalMart. The MD SC struck it down, saying states cannot do that.

Another one. Marion Barry - when he first came into office - had a law passed that said if you work for the DC government, you must live in DC. That was struck down as unConstitutional.

And so you ASS-U-ME DeSantis approves of everything the GOP candidate in CO thinks, and...

Stop! I assumed no such thing.

I criticized O'Dea on his positions on two important issues.

And I criticized DeSantis for supporting a candidate who is wrong on those two important issues.

And then I simply gave DeSantis two demerits.

Try to follow the conversation. It's not that difficult.

It doesn't logically follow from anything that I said that I think DeSantis "approves everything" O'Dea thinks.
