Vladimir Putin can call up all the troops he wants, but Russia has no way of getting those new troops the training and weapons they need to fight in Ukraine any time soon.
With his invasion of Ukraine faltering badly, the Russian President on Wednesday announced the immediate “partial mobilization” of Russian citizens. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Russian television that the country will call up 300,000 reservists.
If they end up facing Ukrainian guns on the front lines, they are likely to become the newest casualties in the invasion Putin started more than seven months ago and that has seen the Russian military fail at almost every aspect of modern war.

If the pictures my oldest son just showed me are accurate, the Kalashnikov rifles they're being issued are old, rusted, seized and the wooden stocks are crap too.

This has WW2 Russians written all over it: 3 guys sharing a rifle and 5 bullets.
1st guy gets shot and dies, the 2nd guy, who was following behind him, picks up the rifle and bullets and moves forward. Then he gets shot and dies.
3rd guy, who was following behind the second guy, picks up the rifle & bullets, attempts to fire the weapon and it either blows up in his face, or he gets shot and dies.

I think that at the time we felt that the Nazis deserved whatever the Soviets were going to do to them and we didn't owe them any favors.

A quick search shows 12 weeks for Marines, about 10 weeks for Army, 8 weeks for Air Force.
Overwight as many appeaar in the recruitment photos, they will last a while on their own fat. In one of the Antarctic polar expeditions everyone died because the food supply was miscalculated for the number of men. Given the cold and the trecking exercise they should have had 7,000 calories. I wonder how many calories men sitting around in unheated shacks or trenches need living with King Winter.
Also I have seen reports they will probably not have adequate winter gear, because of manufacturing delays. Any more information on that situation?
