Vladimir Putin can call up all the troops he wants, but Russia has no way of getting those new troops the training and weapons they need to fight in Ukraine any time soon.
With his invasion of Ukraine faltering badly, the Russian President on Wednesday announced the immediate “partial mobilization” of Russian citizens. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Russian television that the country will call up 300,000 reservists.
If they end up facing Ukrainian guns on the front lines, they are likely to become the newest casualties in the invasion Putin started more than seven months ago and that has seen the Russian military fail at almost every aspect of modern war.

Speaking of Zhukov, here he is arresting Beria in the satirical film, “The Death of Stalin”. It’s a great scene.
And note that the guy who played Zhukov spoke in a Yorkshire accent. That was deliberate, and meant to be part of the fun.
“What kind of slop are the newsliars putting out there about this?”
The same kind of slop your side is putting out. It’s how the game is played.
If only Beria’s execution really went down that way.
He was known to mock how his victims pleaded for mercy that he executed in front of Stalin. When his time came he also cried like a little bitch.
“Russia plays better at home than on the road.”
That is so very, very true.
“I feel bad for our patriotic soldiers who didn’t sign up for these types of “leaders”.”
I forget: In what branch of the military did you serve?
Correct but the Soviets were defending their home territory.
The Russians are invading Ukraine. A huge difference.
And the Russians still lost 100,000 men just taking Berlin, that’s almost twice as many soldiers as we lost during the entire Vietnam War.
“So Ukrainians right to exist doesn’t have meaning? Interesting. The left says much the same about us that Putin’s Russia says about Ukraine. The comparisons just draw themselves here.”
It’s obvious to you, too?
Pretty impressive because the Germans consisted mostly of the Volkssturm, they were old men and teenage boys. Not regular troops because they were wiped out on the Eastern Front.
“I do believe the US with Brandon will overrule our NATO Allies and ignore their winter heating concerns. I am certain of this.”
Brandon won’t do squat. But, his handlers? Maybe.
LOLOL!!
I still say if we were allowed to take Berlin, it would have been a cakewalk. Germans were literally running to the Western lines to surrender, in order to not be captured by the Soviets.
“A better comparison would be how the Nazis saw Czechoslovakia in 1938. It wasn’t just about the Sudetenland. The Germans saw Czechoslovakia as a base for Britain and France to “surround” Germany on two fronts.”
Hitler saw the Skoda Works.
That, too.
You do know that the minute you start discussing “draftees” in the context of the mobilization you are indelibly branding yourself as an ignoramus or a troll, don’t you?
But don’t worry your pretty little head. The RF has been out of artillery rounds since March or April, Putin is dead or incapacitated, there is a mass uprising against the war in the RF, the few surviving allied forces in Kherson Oblast on the west side of the Knieper are cut off from resupply, and Kherson City is soon going to fall into the hands of the AFU. How do I know? I’ve been reading your sources.
Although the AFU is currently facing a ferocious onslaught by batushkas wielding broomsticks and handbags, and the AFU casualties are appalling, I guess it’s just a matter of time before the Ukrainian flag is flying over the Kremlin, yellow side up.
“A lot of those Soviet soldiers who fought the Nazis were Ukrainians.”
You mean, of course, those Ukrainians not killed by Stalin in the 1930s or the Nazis in 1941 and 1942.
> When his time came he also cried like a little bitch. <
As did his two predecessors, Yezhov and Yagoda. You’d think Beria would have picked up on the trend here. But I guess that instead he went with that old socialist saying, “This time it will be different.”
“Everybody mentions nazis. No one mentions the holodomor.”
I, do. It’s one of the reasons — among many — that Ukrainians hate Russians.
Is Russia “calling up reserves” or “conscripting draftees”?
If reserves, the call-ups already had some training and service. They might be out of shape and rusty, but would know basics. Some might even be officers. Strangely, Russia’s command system does not seem to have a strong role for non-coms. Not sure how anything gets done without good nco’s.
They probably have a few million left.
