Vladimir Putin appeared poised to go all-in on his war in Ukraine today, sparking fears of an escalation in fighting that could drag in NATO and spark World War Three.
In a day of rapid-fire developments, Kremlin stooges in Ukraine's Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions simultaneously announced referendums on becoming part of Russia between September 23 and 27, with the sham votes expected to easily pass.
Dmitry Medvedev, a staunch Putin ally, then vowed 'all forces of self-defence' will be used to protect what he called 'Russian territory' - teeing up a new phase in the conflict involving weapons and tactics the Kremlin has so-far held in reserve.
Underlining that point, Moscow's rubber-stamp parliament passed new laws paving the war for Putin to end his 'special military operation' and officially declare a war, allowing him to mobilise Russia's massive population into the army.
It comes after Ukraine humiliatingly routed Putin's forces to the east of Kharkiv and recaptured a swathe of territory, with the despot's allies, propagandists and political hardliners calling for an escalation amid calls for the president to resign.
Putin was said to be preparing an address to the nation tonight, Russia's national broadcaster reported, without giving any further details.

All Russian males ages 18-65 will be mobilized and banned from leaving Russia as of midnight. That might be the reason for Putin’s TV delay.
He wasn’t so much played as blocked.🤔
Trying to explain real history to kids these days is like trying to speak logic to a liberal.
We’re on the cusp on really really bad times.
A lot of Russians have fled to Georgia.
“Russia was the country that was the heart of the Soviet union.”
True, but Russia is and was FAR DIFFERENT - for starters, they were never going around the world trying to spread in ideology, as the Soviets were doing with Communism. Nor was Russia threatening the US out of the blue, as they did during the Cold War.
Far different country now...but back them into a corner, and they will fight.
You are so close to actually understanding this and yet you resist.
One of the a priori condition precedent for Putin's prior invasion of Crimea and the Ukrainian War of 2022 is to continue the Soviet tradition of rewarding Russia's kleptocracy -- particularly those 'Old Communist' families -- who over many decades of the USSR and right until the present day, were 'awarded', along with staffers and hangers-on, prime Crimean and east Ukrainian Communist outposts -- accompanied by their beautiful dachas: Odessa, Yalta, Mriya.
Gorbachev's Zarya dacha in Foros -- a billion-ruble 'investment' -- the more recent example.
This Soviet policy was and is specifically meant to displace the local Ukrainian populace.
Putin's illegal invasion of the Ukraine, therefore, is the exact equivalent of Mexico's Labrador declaring war on the US in order to preserve the Mexican mojado illegal invasion of TEXAS and California and the American Southwest!
"¡Aztlán es nuestro! ¡Los Estadounidenses son Nazis!" ("Aztlan is ours! Americans are Nazis!")
This Mexican policy was and is specifically meant to displace the local American populace.
“He wasn’t so much played as blocked.”
There was an element of that too - and we now know that they flat-out LIED to Trump.
“... it was Ukraine’s choice - they chose war and that’s fine with me.”
Ukraine invaded Russia? Who knew?
Dale Carnegie-101
“Ukraine invaded Russia? Who knew?”
Why do you think Ukraine invaded Russia? I certainly didn’t claim that.
“We as in the US, you know, since I live in the US and born and raised US....5th generation military brat.”
Your exact words: “Russia doing fine and we are not even remotely invoking the Chinese industrial base.......”
Inserting “the US” for “we” makes no sense whatsoever: “Russia doing fine and the US are not even remotely invoking the Chinese industrial base...” The second clause is a non sequitur, a fallacy.
Recently, Ukraine fired weapons into Russia proper. They hit and destroyed military targets previously out of range.
There was no boots on the ground but there was a devastating assault
Ah yes, technicalities. My bad.
Also reports that Putin TV delay due to multiple versions of mobilization speech were taped and Kremlin is deciding which version to go with.
Riskiest version for Putin is to announce mobilization in the following regions only:
Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Vornesh, Rostov, Kalingrad, Crimea.
Exempt from mobilization and travel ban: Males in Moscow and St Petersburg.
What a total omission of facts of the circumstance report
What we’ve come to expect from western media on anything basically but especially this conflict
For those of us here who follow:
The west
Fairly objective war news aggregators
Russian sources which shamefully are more forthcoming than western fabrications and lies and at best facts back page two weeks late
We here learned today the following which is simply what we’ve learned right or wrong Putin intentions despite western usual refusal to report
After the big non aligned summit a few days ago where we are told China turkey and India offered no opposition
Russia intends to hold referendums in occupied Donbas next few days declaring they desire to be Russian federation
It will of course pass
Russian Duma will vote and pass of course
Then Putin will do publicity blitz and approve it
Then Russia will go to full Russian army force into conflict rather than DPR LPR Wagner Chechen Belorussian etc militias or contractors to bring this to an end
What western border they end up who knows
Broad Donbas or Donetsk Luhansk ?
Odessa
No clue but I doubt it’s occupy Ukraine since the conflict has been nearly all Donbas
It’s a top down and bottom up strategy
Kremlin wants this always has since Minsk which they west spayed or ignored
Donbas separatists want more help and get it over with and we’ll see
Luhansk and Donetsk are mostly occupied with pockets of ukrop resistance
The formerly called Donbas oblasts Kherson and Kharkiv areas who knows
The Kharkiv retreat which folks can argue the nuance of contributed too I think
Anyhow no question this is coming
It’s public and if folks here bothered to read past western propaganda they would know
How it resolves who knows but it’s going to make ukrop already tenuous position harder
I hope it brings resolution and I know it’s a cliche
Peace
Peace that should have been dealt with in 2014
Argue and name call away
This are simply facts about what Putin is going to do
These referendums will give him a reason to apply full Russian military
Putin doesn’t have the forces to defend Belgorad,Russia.
Next, Putin will be holding a referendum on Alaska joining Russia.
Yup and the problem is the burakrauts have thoroughly infested DC.😝
“Why do you think Ukraine invaded Russia? I certainly didn’t claim that.”
Nice try, Sparky. YOU said that Ukraine “chose war.” My response was posed as a mockery of your comment. Are you that obtuse?
I wouldn’t be surprised if they(Alaska) agreed to join.🙄
