Mary Peltola’s win in the Alaska special election this week became the latest surprise to spark concern for Republicans as it appears that a once presumptive red wave in November is neither definite nor guaranteed.

Peltola, the first Alaska Native and first Democrat in decades to be elected to fill the state’s lone House seat, edged out two formidable Republican challengers on Wednesday, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), to serve the remainder of the late Rep. Don Young’s (R) term.

The warning should be that Democrats are using rank choice to thwart the will of the people.

Murky Murkowski was behind the push for ranked choice voting because there was no way she was going to win a republican primary.

The GOP candidates earned 60% of the vote - and lost.

RCVoting is a scam.

Dumb Alaska Republicans, including Murkowski did it to themselves.

Ranked choice voting was the only path to victory for Murky. There's no way she could win a republican primary. RINOs don't care if the Alaskan House seat goes to a rat as long as Murky keeps her Senate seat.

Someone should explain to Caroline Vakil that we know she works directly for the DNC.

Never would have occurred without ranked choice voting. Even with Palin’s popularity in the 30s she still would have won had it been a one on one matchup.

Ranked voting is using statistics to let people vote more than once. It is illegal.

Can Palin take this to court? Claiming the system doesn't default the rank to the next highest person in that party?
Otherwise the system is designed to split the vote.

What is the strategy for ranked choice voting?
———-

The strategy is don’t run two republicans in the same race who trash each other to the extent their supporters don’t support/rank the opposing candidate second, thus allowing the democrat to win with 40%…..i have heard many of the republicans didn’t even bother to rank the other candidates…

ranked voting lost us the election.

It wasn’t just the state idiotic election process. It was also. Others not seeing past the end of their noses.

I dot care if they supported Palin or Begich. Doesn’t matter. The Dem wasn’t even close in the first round of voting. But folks can’t seem to see past so many things.

If you support Palin, Begich is #2. If you support Begich, Palin s #2. Makes no sense.

No. RINO, MAGA hating voters got what they wanted.

Remember that during the 1700’s Revolution the Colonies were about 1/3 - 1/3 - 1/3 .

Alaska is still apparently that way.

And let’s not forget about the massive influx of liberals into Anchorage and Fairbanks and sprinkled in a few other locales.

Like every inched state, they establish a foothold in a few cities, their numbers grow and they can start shifting things.

I know someone that was assigned to Ft Wainwright. Liberals and hipsters would pile into town in the spring and summer. Subarus jammed with their rescue dog and all their belongings. At the same time they’d be liking out of town after one winter as they learned it wasn’t as romantic or as easy at it looks on Life Below Zero

I suspect this comment will be lost in the flood, but I'll post it anyway: what stops Alaska GOP from holding a caucus before the next ranked-vote election? The party can then decide who their standard-bearer would be. Let the Democrats run multiple candidates and split THEIR vote.

...because Murkowski is actually a socialistic democrat running as a Republican - otherwise know as a RINO.

Why are DINOs so rare, but RINOs are all over the place.

That's rhetorical, no need to comment.
