California is set to roll out its long-awaited ban on new gasoline cars on Thursday, which is part of its rule to have all new cars sold by 2035 to be electric only in an effort to fight climate change.
Governor Gavin Newsom first announced the ban in 2020 as a means to reduce the amount of smog-induced pollution in the air, which will improve the state's air quality that is the worst in the US.
The move will also make California the first in the world to mandate zero-emission vehicles on its roads.
Thursday's launch will require that 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions, then 68 percent by 2030 and ultimately 100 percent five years after.
'The climate crisis is solvable if we focus on the big, bold steps needed to stem the tide of carbon pollution,' Newsom said in a statement Wednesday.
The move, according to Newson, will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent in the nation's most populous state.

The way I look at it, let California do whatever they want, I hope it turns into an Atlas Shrugged Situation where the producers leave and the hell that’s created from the departure turns California into a wasteland, hopefully by that time any conservative has left the state.
I’ll just leave that alone. LOL
I’ll bet they will ban gas stations next.
No, the Communist in CA will not allow vehicles purchased out out of state to be registered. This is exactly what they’ll do.
The problem is market size. Ca is a big enough market that they bully the manufacturers.Plus there will be a dozen rat states who will Join Ca. The car companies cannot split production so in effect California will dictate what cars we drive
This will only have the desired result if growth of non poluting power generation is timed with the phase out of petrol based travel.
Of course this means nuclear as well as the solar and wind efforts.
Also means electric rail needs to come into the picture. (And this is not possible withoug other states joining the program.
Right now, I would put this in the category of a pleasant dream. Sounds good though.
looks like typical clickbait bullshite from the Daily Mail:
“It sets interim targets requiring that 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions. That would climb to 68 percent by 2030.”
“not legal under the Commerce clause in the Constitution”
What’s a constitution?
I want California Governor Gavin Newsom to ban liver.
I hate liver. It tastes terrible. And don’t give me that “cook it with onions” crap.
That’s only 6 years away.
good...
they’re forfeiting their ability to dictate emissions standards on ice vehicles for the rest of the country...
Auto manufacturers knew this was coming so that’s why they are pivoting toward EVs.
I’ve been out of that wretched state for 21 years and will never move back. A visit every three years is about enough.
I assume this will extend to the ability to register and insure a new gasoline car in CA.
These Leftist state totalitarian authoritarian politicians are not too concerned about the exodus, as it is mostly going to consolidate their electorate to rabid Leftists with fewer moderates and conservatives.
They know those people going into other states will still vote their same errors, because they’ve bee brainwashed all of their lives, so it will work to turn red states blue/purple.
CNN is already pushing him for president. He slipped into the White House while Biden was in Europe to measure the curtains.
But lurking in the background is the Hildabeast.
Its only a matter of time until gavin starts mandating/dictating that all gas stations need to convert to electric and he restricts the amount of gas that a station can sell or some such similar nonsense.
What happens when the climate from Washington and Oregon turn south? How is California going to stop it?
Use a paper tag like all the illegals in Texas use 🤣
Let’s go San Andreas Fault!
