When Biden met with historians last week at the White House, they compared the threat facing America to the pre-Civil War era and to pro-fascist movements before World War II
President Biden paused last week, during one of the busiest stretches of his presidency, for a nearly two-hour private history lesson from a group of academics who raised alarms about the dire condition of democracy at home and abroad.
The conversation during a ferocious lightning storm on Aug. 4 unfolded as a sort of Socratic dialogue between the commander in chief and a select group of scholars, who painted the current moment as among the most perilous in modern history for democratic governance, according to multiple people familiar with the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a private meeting.
Comparisons were made to the years before the 1860 election when Abraham Lincoln warned that a “house divided against itself cannot stand” and the lead-up to the 1940 election, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt battled rising domestic sympathy for European fascism and resistance to the United States joining World War II.
The diversion was, for Biden, part of a regular effort to use outside experts, in private White House meetings, to help him work through his approach to multiple crises facing his presidency. Former president Bill Clinton spoke with Biden in May about how to navigate inflation and the midterm elections. A group of foreign policy experts, including former Republican advisers, came to the White House in January to brief Biden before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
These meetings have come as Biden faces the isolation that is endemic to presidency, a problem that some Democrats say has been worsened by the coronavirus pandemic, which restricted visitors through much of the first year of his presidency, and...

THAT, and just prior, is when we lost the Republic. Leftists came out of the box accusing Trump, especially, of trying to steal the election. Now they call those saying there was fraud in Nov. 2020 “election deniers” in a nasty tone. Media makes sure the derogatory phrase is mentioned
They ran with that idea on January 6th. Those known to be at the capitol are political prisoners. No voicing an opinion.
We should have known something big was up: Joe, the Sniffer, spent the whole campaign season in his basement.
What I want to know is: who told President Trump the rally was a good idea for that day? Never before have people been arrested for wanting there voices heard. At least not since the Civil Rights Era.

Personally, I think the point of no return was when SCOTUS abdicated their Constitutional duty to hear the Texas election lawsuit, thereby green lighting all such election pre-rigging and subsequent vote fraud to come.
That’s when the Republic was lost.
They keep referring to “our democracy”, but we all know it’s THEIR POWER they’re talking about.
I will never view the United States in the same light.

Its not the same country it was. Not even close to it.
We’ve gone over the edge.
The calm before the storm?

There won’t be a storm. Just a steady descent into dysfunction and chaos.
GOOD!
We aren’t a Democracy
How about we start with the fact that America is not now, nor ever has been ... a democracy. America is a constitutional representative republic.
Bite-Me is so addle-brained they could have warned him his pants were on fire and wouldn’t have grasped the concept until it began singing his pubes.
How convenient that American democracy is teetering right before midterm elections where the Dems are projected to lose power.
************
You can be certain the administration and the Dems have a plan to salvage the election. This is existential for them.
As much as I hate to say it, so far they seem to be executing their plan. They are probably right on schedule.
Lucky for them they don’t have to fight against a real opposition party. That makes their plan achievable.
Fourth Turning.
Kind of frightening to think they had to school him on this stuff or even inform him he’s lost the country.

He’ll buy them back with give aways paid for with taxpayer dollars. We used to be the Land of the Free. Now we’re just the Land of the Freebie.
So who’s at fault? The people seeking simply to retain the ideals and practices of the American Republic as it has existed for centuries, or the people who at every opportunity are raging against the 1st, 2nd, 9th, 10th and other amendments, calling for packing the court and other alterations of government, endlessly seeking expansion of government powers and regulations, and so on? This shouldn’t be hard for people to figure out.
Amazing that those mental giants don’t realize we have a
Constitutional Republic.

We used to have one. We are a Constitutional Republic in name only now.
Excellent post. Well said.
The Election was STOLEN...and this is the result of it.
Anyone that doesn’t get that is lying to themselves.

Biden was unable to gather any crowds at his few appearances yet we are to believe he defeated a man who packed every venue he spoke at and held rallies that had thousands of people outside the events.
Biden only care bout keepin the stolen $$ flowing and stealin as much as possible. Thats it, nothing else.
Socratic dialogue. Give me a break. End of story.
*************
Yep, that was pure BS intended to make the meeting sound like an erudite and scholarly affair. Truth be known it was probably more like a gathering of liberal sycophants and bootlickers.
Biden is not exactly an intellectual or anything remotely approaching one. Actually, he’s an idiot so scholars talking to him is pissing up a rope.
