ussian President Vladimir Putin on Monday touted a new era of weapon systems that he says are "decades ahead of their foreign counterparts" while his nation simultaneously faces a stiffer challenge than expected from Ukrainian forces.
Putin's comments came as Pentagon officials estimate that between 70,000 and 80,000 Russian troops have either been killed or wounded in action since the Ukraine invasion began February 24.
As Russia continues to lose not only soldiers but artillery, Putin maintains an optimistic outlook with Russian allies in Latin America, Asia and Africa that have "historically firm, friendly and truly trustworthy relations" and are being provided "cutting-edge weapons—from small arms to armored vehicles and artillery, combat aviation and drones," according to an English translation of his remarks.
"We are talking about high-precision weapons and robotics, combat systems based on new physical principles," Putin said. "Many of them are years, perhaps even decades ahead of their foreign counterparts, and significantly superior in terms of tactical and technical characteristics."
Putin made the comments at the opening of the Army-2022 International Military-Technical Forum and the International Army Games 2022 in Moscow. The forum consisted of about 1,500 domestic defense industry enterprises presenting over 28,000 modern samples of military and dual-use products that were slated to be demonstrated.
His comments came on the heels of reports from the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War that Russian volunteer soldiers have allegedly not been paid or adequately fed, and have not received previously promised benefits for their participation.

Day 165 of a “special operation”. Putin’s forces have LESS Ukrainian territory today than they had controlled on day 15 of the war.
Russia has lost thousands of men. Hundreds of tanks, dozens of aircraft and the flagship of the Black sea fleet.

The USA has not had a quality decline, just a decline in number of troops.
The USA navy is bigger, better equipped and more advanced than the rest of the world’s navies COMBINED.

Putin is relying entirely on the goodwill of the west to let him to, as Macron said openly, “save face.” The fact is advanced NATO weaponry in Ukrainian hands can and will smash to scrap metal the inferior Russian army.

After hydrocarbons and grain, weapons are are Russia's export cash cow. It is one more area of their economy that is imploding.
A lot of production is now re-directed from export into the meatgrinder of the Ukraine, as well as components and materials in short supply due to sanctions.
But the Russian brand has also been badly damaged by the losses they have taken in the Ukraine, and the way that Western systems have walked all over them. Russian weapons don't seem very good any more. A lot of long term customers have put new orders on hold.
The Russians concentrated their top of the line Air Defense systems around the Antonivsky Bridge in Kherson, and threw up a big fireworks show, that HIMARS rockets passed through apparently unscathed, and took out the bridge. Those Air Defense systems apparently also did not do a lick of good for them at Saki Airbase in Crimea either, that was heavily defended with them.
It is like the expensive, top of the line systems that the Russians are trying to sell, just don't work against the Western ones. It is one thing to sell propaganda to folks in their armchairs, but quite another when they have to part with their hard cash, or their lives depend on it. Russian arms sales have cratered after the poor performance in the Ukraine. They systems have become a joke, and a meme.

Ukraine is not fully mobilized. Still has hundreds of thousands of citizens under training.
Russia doesn’t have expeditionary forces. It lacks the technology and skills to conduct them.
Russia is a technological, poverty-riddled, and corrupt country that is getting the shit beat out of it by a highly motivated nation that wants to survive.
