Donald Trump could be banned from public office if he's found guilty of mishandling classified White House documents, legal experts have warned

Federal law prohibits someone convicted of mishandling documents from holding any office in the United States

Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla., was raided by the FBI Monday

The investigation is said to be focused on material that Trump brought to the property after he left the White House in 2021

In January 2022, the National Archives removed 15 boxes from Mar-a-Lago, some containing classified data, that they said Trump should not have taken with him

Agents were looking to see if Trump had even more records in his home

If found guilty, Trump could face a maximum sentence of three years in prison

Former President Donald Trump could be banned from holding public office if he is found guilty of mishandling White House records.

Federal law prohibits someone convicted of mishandling documents from holding any office in the United States, legal experts have warned could be a 'huge' development for Trump's hopes to run for president in 2024.

'If Trump is convicted under this federal statute, he would be prohibited from holding any office including the office of the president,' former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told DailyMail.com. 'That would be huge.'

Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla., was raided by the FBI Monday, reportedly as part of an investigation into whether he took classified documents with him when he left presidential office.

Trump, in his dramatic announcement of the raid, didn't specifically say what the federal agents were looking for, just that his home was 'under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.'

Anything the Gestapo claims to find will be planted or, like you say, fabricated. The way this has occurred, with such a questionable chain of custody, no honest federal judge would allow anything from this raid to be placed into evidence. But there are no honest judges left in Washington.

Lol! The documents in question are at the privilege of the President in regards to the classification. The whole thing stinks. The
Eftists know this, but they propagate the lie to make it the truth.

“Federal law prohibits...”
Federal law can’t trump the Constitution.

Exactly. Where does the Constitution give Congress the power to pass such a law covering a Constitutional office?

Plus, the President is the authority from which all classification flows. So, by definition, the President cannot mishandle classified documents. If he decides to stand on a New York subway platform and pass out documents to random passersby, he is still properly handling classified documents, since he makes the rules.

No, his underlings should begin to expire from strokes or heart attacks or car accidents or canoe accidents.

They did it before and felt free to continue.

If they quickly convict Trump, It could take years to sort this out in the courts, thereby preventing Trump from running.

The President has absolute authority to declassify anything. I remember our consternation when Jimmy Carter declassified the KH-11 system. Sure the Soviets had the manual, but that was not the point.

Hope your sources are right - not that absence of evidence would stop this corrupt establishment.
