We are in big trouble. Kansas will be the abortion capital of the country, and God will punish us accordingly.

I’m afraid Kansas has turned Jayhawk blue.

There is no right to abortion defined anywhere in the Kansas Constitution. This is simply the Kansas Supreme Court judges finding the same right that the SCOTUS just determined did not exist in the US Constitution. This ruling in 2015 could be eventually overturned if the activist Kansas judges eventually are replaced with texturalists.

No, there was only one ballot measure.

I’m from Kansas. There was a lot of (out of state) money thrown into the race by the pro-abortion side — far more than the pro-life side. The pro-life side led a very weak campaign and advertisements on TV/radio and social media were 10-1 for the pro-abortion side. The pro-abortion folks were able to paint the pro-life argument as extreme, claiming that if the amendment passed then laws would be passed totally banning abortion in all cases. Pro-life folks in the legislature and state office did a very poor job by failing to indicate the nature of the laws that they intended to put forward if the amendment passed. It also does not help that the current governor is a Democrat, so there was no single bully pulpit to use to present the pro-life side.

I’m really surprised Kansas is a red state what gives?

You cannot strip away a half century old “right” without consequences. My guess is that the Republican wave is barely going to be a trickle.

Totally.

Now in Kansas ANY legislation to limit abortion up to the second a full-term infant is born (or to require parental notice before a minor receives one; or to deny taxpayer funding for abortion)..any limit is now unconstitutional.

I would bet if that were explained to that 62% that many of them would have voted differently

Yes, Laura Kelly (Democrat) became the 48th Governor of the State of Kansas, on January 14, 2019.

I’m not in Kansas, but my understanding was that there were two initiatives on the ballot there having to do with abortion, one of them not pro-life.

No. One initiative only concerning abortion.

This is a common tactic with the Left. That, and the confusing language on the real pro-life initiative probably left voters befuddled.

Leftist tactic? If you wanted to stack the deck in favor of changing the constitution to remove the abortion protections you could not have done better than Kansas did. Arrange to have the vote during the primary election, in a state where the primaries are closed and Republicans outnumber Democrats and independents would have nothing to vote for other than the referendum. Low turnout made up primarily of your base should have guaranteed a win for abortion opponents. Then came Dobbs...

These results cannot be right, they just cannot be right.

As it looks right now, far more people voted in the Republican Primary for Governor than voted in the Democrat Primary.

There is just no way, it is impossible that close to majority of GOP voters voted for abortion.

If you had to live in Kansas city you would understand their vote. The important thing is that the state voters are making the decision, not some black robes in the District of Columbia.

This is the wording that was on the ballot:

Ballot text: Shall the following be adopted? § 22. Regulation of abortion. Because Kansans value both women and children, the constitution of the state of Kansas does not require government funding of abortion and does not create or secure a right to abortion. To the extent permitted by the constitution of the United States, the people, through their elected state representatives and state senators, may pass laws regarding abortion, including, but not limited to, laws that account for circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, or circumstances of necessity to save the life of the mother.
[ ] Yes [ ] No

The Value Them Both Amendment would affirm there is no Kansas constitutional right to abortion or to require the government funding of abortion, and would reserve to the people of Kansas, through their elected state legislators, the right to pass laws to regulate abortion, including, but not limited to, in circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, or when necessary to save the life of the mother.

A vote for the Value Them Both Amendment would affirm there is no Kansas constitutional right to abortion or to require the government funding of abortion, and would reserve to the people of Kansas, through their elected state legislators, the right to pass laws to regulate abortion.

A vote against the Value Them Both Amendment would make no changes to the constitution of the state of Kansas, and could restrict the people, through their elected state legislators, from regulating abortion by leaving in place the recently recognized right to abortion.
