WASHINGTON (AP) — Gun makers have taken in more than $1 billion from selling AR-15-style guns over the past decade, at times marketing them as a way for young men to prove their masculinity, even as the number of mass shootings increases, according to a House investigation unveiled Wednesday.
The weapons have been used in massacres that have horrified the nation, including one that left 10 people dead at a grocery store in Buffalo and another where 19 children and two teachers were shot to death in Uvalde, Texas.
The Committee on Oversight and Reform said some ads mimic popular first-person shooter video games or tout the weapons’ military pedigree while others claim the guns will put buyers “at the top of the testosterone food chain.”
Those sales tactics are “deeply disturbing, exploitative and reckless,” said Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York. “In short, the gun industry is profiting off the blood of innocent Americans.”

I guess those items have more daily utility than chocolate, red wine, and the latest cry-a-thon on Lifetime.
Those like the author of this screed who routinely conflate sexuality with weapons have some serious psychosexual issues that are best addressed by involuntary custodial confinement, regular heavy doses of thorazine and shock aversion therapy.
Those are all fine examples of women. Not womxn. Spelling counts ...
The AR platform is a great base to build a long or short gun to suit yourself. Building and shooting your personal firearm seems pretty entertaining to me. I’m sure people having built their own are prone to build more than one. A friend of mine said the AR is like a red neck Barbie doll. You can dress her up any way you like. It works both ways. I got him a pink lower for his girlfriend. He wanted his AR back, she had a good time helping build it. The AR’s are easy to handle and ladies I’ve known are quite adept at handling them.
Real men shoot .58 caliber ...
Be very careful, sir.
AR15s are dangerous.
Having one isn’t too bad ...
If you put two of them togerther in your darkened gun-cabinet ...
THEY MULTIPLY.
He makes a point, but unfortunately you need to put it in context. Let's look at advertisements of Detroit muscle cars in car magazines that showed street cars drifting through corners on race tracks or compared street legal cars to NASCAR race cars.
While, 30 years ago almost all firearm advertising was focused on hunting or target shooting. That has changed and now personal defense is a major advertising feature.
However, I collect really old semi-automatic firearms. One of my favorite firearms is the Savage Auto Pistol. It is a 10-shot, semiautomatic pistol in 32 ASP (Auto Savage Pistol). (Yes the 32 ASP was about 100 fps faster than a .32 ACP).
Savage advertised heavily in various women's magazines that every home and every wife should have one of their 10-shot pistols to protect against burglars and criminals. About 100 years ago much of the firearm advertising was personal defense oriented. Check out some of the advertising. So what is being complained about is nothing new or unique to the firearms industry.
That’s the chin of a penis having person...
I have a 338 winmag, but because of m anhood issues I’m looking at a 505 Gibbs or 700 NE
LOL
I’ll take that under advisement.
I can see it happening at other times in my life, but now
I’m not quite as susceptible to such things as I used to
be.
I’ll keep those two AR15s separated!
Bahaha! That was a good chuckle.
AR-15s marketed for proving masculinity? The Uvalde shooter wore women’s clothing.
Which ad?
I call B.S.!
Another twisted report generated to find data of ANY sort to support the pre-determined outcome...
“So, perhaps a million sold over ten years and less than a hundred used in mass shootings”
Yielding a .001%.
Easily my favorite rifle.
“Of the last 80 mass shootings in the United States, more than a quarter, including Monday’s shooting in Boulder, Colorado, involved the use of AR-15 rifles.”
“A Newsweek analysis found that the semi-automatic rifle was used in 21 mass shootings over the past decade.”
So, how many murders committed by knives during that time?
