> Which Republican president commanded troops on June 19, 1865? <

By golly, you’ve got a point there! I just looked it up. Andrew Johnson was president at the time. He ran with Lincoln, who was of course a Republican. But to my surprise, I read that Johnson himself was a Democrat.

So I guess I’ll have to correct my future statements on the matter to say:

“Juneteenth should be marked as the day Republican troops under the command of Republican officers freed the last of the slaves held captive by Democrats.”

(I’m sure I’m safe with that one, as there had to be quite a few officers present who were Republicans.)

Oh, and thanks for the post, RE. Because of it, I learned something new today!

If you express any thought that steps out of line, you’re destroyed. This is called “diversity”.

I remember in math class studying about imaginary and irrational numbers. I never expected we’d have a national holiday about them.

My comment was tongue in cheek, but yours bears repeating.

“Juneteenth is nothing but more progressive Black Ass Kissing to maintain the hold on the slim Black majority required to control the coalition of City States.”

Wow! There’s a whole lot of truth in that single sentence. Sums it up well.

Freegards!

If we’re getting that technical, Lincoln and Johnson ran on the National Union Party ticket.

It's amazing that criticizing an illiterate, stupid “holiday” gets you canned from an apple festival.

Nicholson, who served as Henderson County manager from 1996 until 2005, briefly posted, then took down, the Facebook comment, that read, “The Post Office is closed today for some made-up holiday that I never heard of? Just when is the ‘Old Fat White Man Day’? I really want to celebrate this day,”

Not a crazy comment. Maybe a little insensitive but that's a stretch.

Another one bites the dust...

The North Carolina Apple Festival Board said "...we join in celebrating Juneteenth with all members of our community and apologize for the actions of Mr. Nicholson.”

I tell you, our Juneteenth Celebration was magnificent. Everybody had such a good, rollicking time! I hope your celebration was as good as ours. I'm not sure which was more fun, our Juneteenth Celebration or our Pride Celebration.

Why do American black people keep concocting their own fake holidays and imposing them on all of us? Kwaanza failed massively, so now we have this "Juneteenth" crap. Europeans, Africans, Asians, South Americans...none of them do that. Why are American black people so insecure?

A tad picky
Yes Lincoln had been assassinated by then and Johnson was Pres
Johnson identified himself with the Democratic policies of Andrew Jackson, advocating for the poor and being opposed to non-essential government spending. He was also a strong anti-abolitionist and a promoter of states’ rights, while still being an unqualified supporter of the Union.
Do those sound kinda Republican?
But it is still undeniably a Republican proclamation
