Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Thursday will launch a $1 billion pilot plan to address what he sees as cities and neighborhoods racially segregated or divided by roads.
Buttigieg has previously declared “there is racism physically built” into U.S. infrastructure, promising to address it soon after taking office.
As Breitbart News reported, he argued that some highways and bridges across several cities were designed to divide communities by race.
“Well if you’re in Washington, I’m told that the history of that highway is one that was built at the expense of communities of color in the D.C. area,” he said. “There are stories and I think Philadelphia and Pittsburgh [and] in New York, Robert Moses famously saw through the construction of a lot of highways.”
“There is racism physically built into some of our highways, and that’s why the jobs plan has specifically committed to reconnect some of the communities that were divided by these dollars,” he added.
Now he has moved to correct what he sees as a racial road system that is part of a broader systemic problem across the nation.

There would be no need for roads and mass transit if Democrats did not drive the employers away from the cities in the first place.
The utopian city is one where you live and work within a walking distance.
But there are no jobs in these cities. The roadways did not destroy them....the Democrats destroyed them.

Buttkrieg has it EXACTLY BACKWARDS. He is correct that people like Robert Moses thought they would engineer cities, mostly to accommodate automobiles and suburbs. He ignores the fact these people were progressives and big government social-engineers and central planners. The result was these people caused the ruin of these neighborhoods.
The Kensington-33 Expressway in Buffalo is a perfect example. Humboldt Parkway was once a beautiful, divided street with grassy medians and huge oaks and elms lining it, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The houses were beautiful turn of the century upper-middle-class homes.
in the 1950s, Moses and other New York central planners decided to dig out the street and put a recessed expressway through it. As residents sold-out cheaply, the neighborhood quickly turned into a ghetto on Buffalo's East Side, for blacks who had moved from the South during and after WWII, and who needed cheap housing. Its the same neighborhood where the recent supermarket shooting took place.
In sum, the ghettos were CREATED by these central-planners

I’ve seen roads where the asphalt appears red due to rocks with high iron oxide content being used. Is that racist against native/indigenous Americans or whatever they’re called by the left these days . . . ?
