Every branch of the military is struggling to make its 2022 recruiting goals, officials say
NBC News ^ | June 27, 2022 | By Courtney Kube and Molly Boigon

Every branch of the U.S. military is struggling to meet its fiscal year 2022 recruiting goals, say multiple U.S. military and defense officials, and numbers obtained by NBC News show both a record low percentage of young Americans eligible to serve and an even tinier fraction willing to consider it.

The officials said the Pentagon’s top leaders are now scrambling for ways to find new recruits to fill out the ranks of the all-volunteer force. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks consider the shortfall a serious issue, said the officials, and have been meeting on it frequently with other leaders.

“This is the start of a long drought for military recruiting,” said Ret. Lt. Gen. Thomas Spoehr of the Heritage Foundation, a think tank. He said the military has not had such a hard time signing recruits since 1973, the year the U.S. left Vietnam and the draft officially ended. Spoehr said he does not believe a revival of the draft is imminent, but “2022 is the year we question the sustainability of the all-volunteer force.” ...

An internal Defense Department survey obtained by NBC News found that only 9% of those young Americans eligible to serve in the military had any inclination to do so, the lowest number since 2007.

The survey sheds light on how both Americans’ view of the military and the growing civilian-military divide may also be factors in slumping recruitment, and how public attitudes could cause recruiting struggles for years to come...

In 2021 the annual Reagan National Defense Survey, conducted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, found that just 45% of Americans had a great deal of trust and confidence in the military, down 25 points since 2018...

[It’s why they’ve removed every top possible future cross-sider from its hierarchy and installed wokes like Ms. Milley at the JCS on down.]

My basic point is that loyalty tests don’t really work. People believe what they believe. It’s mostly baked in the cake by the time they reach adulthood. If they like a given job, they will lie to get it and to keep it. You might say that’s unethical. But more unethical than imposing a loyalty test like wokeism on an organization sworn to defend the nation from its enemies? More unethical than the left’s preparation for the imposition of totalitarian dictatorship on the nation? As Churchill once said, in a different context, “In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.”

No right thinking American should join the military under the crazy Dementia Joe. That would be like committing suicide.
Let them go recruit from the homeless camps in San Francisco and from all them crazy trans creeps.

[I think you spend too much time in reflection on history gone and irrelevant AND with comparisons of what’s happening with Ukraine, myself.]

We’ll have to agree to disagree. And, regardless of your personal sentiments, young conservatives will continue to join the military to further their personal ambitions. And they will continue to lie to their superiors until they get what they want. It’s just human nature. And if there comes a time when they have to choose sides, we’ll be glad that they are in a position to do some good.

Exactly what they wanted, so they can bring back the draft.

After reading through some of your other posts, I’m beginning to get your angle. You’re hoping for a future where Russia rules the world. I understand. Forget I said anything.

And I am reminded that that segment of the original colonists of our founding who had to hardline and commit the rest of the “let’s see what happens” group to action.

This country as it is with an out-of-control MSM and social media, 100 million immigrants more than at our Bi-Centennial and a completely corrupt and evil Democrat administration illegally installed (IMO) believe nothing about the US Constitution, or founding or its history. Their ilk would rather believe some twit on Tik Tok than actually reading what our Constitution says.

A raw enlisted recruit that gets their ‘vaccines’ and endures their constant wokeist brainwashing won’t accomplish sh!t. Especially when all their leaders have been replaced with woke leftists.

All I am telling young women and me is to remove themselves from that brainwashing and harm.

Oh please. That’s absurd. Argue with some reason instead of passive aggressive condemnation why don’t you. First Ukraine, now Russia....what’s next, China?

The possible recruits see nothing worth dying for, and see nothing wort protecting, neither.

They see useless foreign combat, for ideas and peoples foreign to them.

With all the years of wars on the nightly news, since the Vvietnam War, some folks don’t want any part of it, or worze, to have granny watch her kid get blown to bits on live TV.

I’m disgusted with my brother for encouraging his youngest son to join the military. He’s a great kid and I don’t want him serving under these corrupt politicians. The people running the government and military cannot be trusted with the life of my family member. I hate that it’s like that but that’s the truth.

-- Can a state create a militia and DECIDE if it wants to be under the federal gov't ? --

I think so, yes. Some states have two militias. One that takes money from the feds so is easily controlled by the feds, and another more federal independent.

I tnink either can be brought under federal command, just the "state" one may require new federal legislation.

State Defense Forces and Homeland Security

Today, 23 states and territories have organized militias, most commonly known as State Defense Forces (SDFs). SDFs provide governors with a cost-effective, vital force multiplier and resource, especially if state National Guard units are deployed out of state.

Gee, I wonder why. What group has been THE backbone of the American military for over 200 years?

What group disproportionally did the fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq and took twice the casualties as their share of the population?

What group has been systematically demonized by the current woke military?

So.....now you say you’re having trouble meeting your recruiting targets........

I am shocked. You’d think people would be flocking to join with Joe Meatpuppet as CiC. They even try to get your pronouns right. Don’t forget the forced Fauci pin prick requirement.

Sounds like a politicized armed force with one faction holding the other in check to avert use of the states armed forces against its own citizens.

First would be the internecine battles.

I don’t trust the military or the government. Join the military with the idea that your presence would have any effect? That’s naive. Join and you are obliged to follow order and your constitutional rights are stripped.

I would advise any straight White male in the strongest possible terms to avoid this military like the plague.

You cannot trust these people. They will not have your back. They hate you and make no secret of it. Do something else with your life. Don’t let these people ruin it.

That’s exactly how it was right after the US entered WWI. Very little enthusiasm, that’s when the propaganda and Sedition Acts kicked into gear.

Stay out until Trump or some other MAGA Republican gets in office and purges the Wokeratti in the military.

That sort of thing is an individual choice, and I think a mix of mercenary and patriot. Who knows What the future holds?

I do agree that behaving “straight up” is folly. Be wise like the serpent.

The government is looking for and inciting the public into physical confrontation, so it can demonstrate its power and cow the public into deeped submission to its tyranny.

How may good giuys are effective in the DOJ and courts? ZERO. The DOJ and Courts are having their way against political opponents. “Good ‘ol boy network” writ large.

But, see Hunt for Red October. Sometimes the burrowed rebel gets a success.
