PERSEVERANCE

The idea of perseverance is an important component in athletics, the military, studies, and even in religion. Perseverance is the master key, the secret of success when you are in the middle of the struggle. It is that extra, the second air, the capacity to overcome the discouragement.

Our society is making a lot of progress. We have technology and facilities that no one in history ever had before. The new generations can grow up today more healthy, and live longer. But we do have an Achilles' heel: the absence of the spirit of perseverance. A young man enthusiastically joined the military yesterday...he wants to resign today. A student goes to college with a lot of promises to herself; three months down the road, she withdraws from those studies. A couple got married today; a year later they file for divorce.

The problem, as I see it, is that while we are helping the younger generation grow up, we are overprotecting them and making the journey too easy. We are not teaching them the important sense of perseverance, that attitude of sacrifice and consistency that every successful person has to maintain to reach their goals.

The scriptures cover the importance of perseverance. It was Jesus who said, "Because of the increase of our wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved" (Matthew 24:12-13). We receive hope and courage through these words. It may be hard, but to love when others hate, make peace and justice when others cause fights and unhappiness, build when others destroy, is "standing firm".

In every task, where we practice consistency and perseverance, we will see the good fruit of our sacrifice. And at the end of the final chapter of the book of our life, we will fully understand what Jesus meant through his words, "But he who stands firm to the end will be saved".

Oh, I forgot to let you know ...... I know you sometimes check out the museum’s FB page and there should be a few pix posted from the TN Maneuvers event they participated in today. I hope they didn’t have rain up there today to ruin the fun.

The humidity there will probably make your 90s and high 80s as uncomfortable as our 100s. i’m ready for fall already!

I’ll bet your green wall is well on its way to being made!

I am! I’ll email a couple of them tomorrow to ask for a few pix they took. One of them sent a shot to Mark on his phone this afternoon and he showed it to me. No rain at that time and they were all smiles. They looked so cool, all in period dress.

Next weekend, I’ll get to hear a lot more about it at the museum.

There are at least 27 pictures of the event and the skies were blue and beautiful. I don't even know where to begin with posting them. These were my faves:

And this...not military, but very cool...

It won’t feel quite like 100 but it’ll be sticky and uncomfortable enough. I don’t plan to get out much next week and will do grocery shopping in the evening. No point in sweating any more than necessary. :-)

Wow! I didn’t you were going to post some. These are cool!

I wonder whose bike that is in the first shot. That’s sweet! Wish we had one at the museum.

The second shot must be one of the re-enactment groups that was there.

The third one is Boss Man’s 1944 Dodge 3/4 ton WC. It was his father’s and hadn’t run for several years. Boss Man spent 3 years working on it and it runs like a top now.

Yep, the last shot definitely not military but that’s what home looked like back in the day. Pretty cool.

So glad to see the pretty weather! I fretted about it quite a bit today.

Glad you enjoyed them. There were so many, I hardly knew where to start! Did the rest of you have a good amount of guests at the museum?

It sounds like they had a bigger turnout this time compared to the event last fall and there was a lot to take pics of. I can’t wait to hear about it next weekend. Thanks for posting the pics.

There were only two of us to work at the museum and fortunately we weren’t overwhelmed. It was a pretty day and people apparently made up for the lack of outside activities last weekend when it was so cold and nasty. But we had a good time with those who did stop by.

We figured we’d be out of there right at closing time but then got a nice surprise. Just before closing, a woman came in with three veterans she’d driven up from AL to see the museum. One, a WWII vet who fought at the Battle of the Bulge, one a WWII and Korea War vet and the third, a Korea and Vietnam Wars vet. Mark took them through and I tagged along to hear what they had to say, any stories they had to tell. No way I was missing out on that! LOL
So even though Mark and I missed out on the fun at Carthage, we had a great day after all.

I felt bad about being two hours late dosing Bella, though, but she got through ok.

Oh, my goodness! Did you get a picture of those vets from 3 generations of our soldiers? What a way to end the day. I’m sure Bella wouldn’t have minded had she understood. And I’m glad she was ok.

I guess I’d better finish this show and head out for realz. I dread that 7:30 wake up alarm. See ya tomorrow night!

No, unfortunately I didn’t get any pics. I didn’t take my camera today because I thought we’d be busy. I need to make a point of taking it every day, just in case.

The woman who drove them there is with some organization and she had several calendars with her, titled “Heartthrob Heroes”. But instead of hunky firemen and such, the photos are all veterans. The 2020 calendar is all WWII vets. 2021 and 2022 are WWII through Vietnam. All three of these veterans are in the calendars so I at least have their photos that way.
They put these calendars out each year as a fundraiser to help vets. They’re really cool. It was nice of her to bring some for us to each have them.

Bella was more than ready for her meds and it took a little longer for their full effects but she’s fine.

You’d better be finished with that show by now and fast asleep. I feel sorry for your alarm clock. LOL

You got lucky yesterday. A beautiful day and didn’t have to share the lake with a crowd. Enjoy that while you can. You know it won’t last much longer. :-)

Yesterday was hot, and I did some riding.

Today it is overcast and rainy...the recital may have to be postpoed.

Orthodox Christian Sunday of the Paralytic:

By Your divine intercession, O Lord, / as You raised up the paralytic of old, / so raise up my soul, paralyzed by sins and thoughtless acts; / so that being saved I may sing to You: / “Glory to Your power, O compassionate Christ!”

Hai Kathy! (((HUGS))) Weather is warm and will be hot by next weekend; partly cloudy and wind will be picking up. I’ll be here for two weeks. Accommodations are neat, lots of interesting stuff around, pretty good eateries.
