Russia-Israel Relations Unravel as Putin Risks Losing Key Middle East Ally
MSN Newsweek ^ | 5/5/2022 | Brendan Cole

The chances of Israel playing a mediating role in the Ukraine war have ended, according to the Jerusalem Post, following anger at comments by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

During an interview on Italian television on Sunday Lavrov said that Adolf Hitler had "Jewish blood" and that "some of the worst antisemites are Jews." It sparked a stern rebuke from his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid who called the comments "scandalous" and demanded an apology.

Lapid said: "Jews did not murder themselves in the Holocaust," referring to the killing of 6 million European Jews and other minority groups by Nazi Germany.

Israel has been careful in its response to the war in Ukraine, expressing support for Kyiv on the one hand while not publicly criticizing Russia on the other.

But Lavrov's remarks, which appear to be aimed at bolstering Russia's claims that it is "denazifying" its neighbor, have created a tricky diplomatic situation for Jerusalem.

More drivels? First, Israel isn’t a Russian ally. Second, Russia is losing nothing from worsened relations, whereas Israel loses everything.
Regarding Lavrov’s speech, there are as usual two words picked out of the context and mountains are made out of molehills. His main point was the existence of self-hating Jews who obviously exist.

“Lots of Godwin’s law material in this mess.”

It’s an actual event where Lavrov said Hitler had Jewish roots. Godwin’s Law does not apply.

Improperly applying Godwin’s Law has been denounced by Mike Godwin himself as ignorant or bullying.

In this case it’s more likely an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I do believe Gyorgy Schwartz is a good example, better known as a troublemaker who calls himself a philantrophyst by the name of George Soros.

It would have been so much better if Lavrov had used Karl Marx as an example instead. The scion of a long line of rabbis, although his father had converted to Christianity, KM was nothing but anti-semitic. Read for instance Paul Johnson’s Intellectuals.

Exactly right. Most of the worlds self-hating-Jews live right here in the USA and they are ALL democrats!

Gee whiz, I don't seem to be able to find any of Putin's exact words of apology quoted by any news source, or even paraphrased.

However, I did find that there are several statements in both Putin and Bennett's own words about the subject of the meeting: Russia - Israel Relations.

Quoted as follows: Putin and Bennett emphasized the "special significance" of May 9, when Russia and Israel commemorate the victory of Europe and Russia against Nazi Germany, during the conversation on Thursday. The Kremlin stressed that the two countries "carefully preserve the historical truth about the events of those years and honor the memory of all the fallen, including victims of the Holocaust."

"The President of Russia recalled that of the 6 million Jews tortured in ghettos and concentration camps, killed by the Nazis during punitive operations, 40% were citizens of the USSR, and asked to convey wishes of health and well-being to the veterans living in Israel. Naftali Bennett, in turn, noted the decisive contribution of the Red Army to the victory over Nazism," said the Kremlin.

Putin also congratulated Bennett on the occasion of Israel's 74th Independence Day. According to a statement by the Kremlin, the two expressed mutual interest in the further development of friendly relations between Russia and Israel and the maintenance of useful contacts between the leadership of the two countries.

Sure sounds like they're fightin' like heck.

Define “everything”. Especially in light of Putin’s meeting the the mass murders from Hamas.

(This will be amusing)

You probably didn’t live in Israel before the end of Cold War. It was an impoverished third world country in a cycle of perpetual war. If Israel can support the Russian enemies, Russia is fully justified to bring it back.
Regarding morality, if you can justify the support of actual Nazis, why not?
