California and 15 states that want the U.S. Postal Service to electrify its mail delivery vehicles are suing to halt purchases of thousands of gas-powered trucks as the agency modernizes its delivery fleet.
Three separate lawsuits, filed Thursday by the states and environmental groups in New York and California, ask judges to order a more thorough environmental review before the Postal Service moves forward with the next-generation delivery vehicle program.
Plaintiffs contend that purchases of fossil fuel-powered delivery vehicles will cause environmental harm for decades to come. The lawsuits could further delay the Postal Service's efforts to replace the ubiquitous delivery trucks that went into service between 1987 and 1994.
"Louis DeJoy's gas-guzzling fleet guarantees decades of pollution with every postcard and package," said Scott Hochberg, an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity, referring to the postmaster general.
Attorneys general from 16 states — 14 of which have Democratic governors — sued in San Francisco. A separate lawsuit by the Center for Biological Diversity, Earthjustice, CleanAirNow KC and Sierra Club was filed in the same venue. Another was filed by the Natural Resources Defense Council and United Auto Workers in New York.
Advocates say the environmental review behind the planned purchase was flawed
All three of them target the environmental review underpinning the Postal Service's planned purchase of up to 165,000 next-generation delivery vehicles over the next decade.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta said it's key to stop the process before it's too late.
"Once this purchase goes through, we'll be stuck with more than 100,000 new gas-guzzling vehicles on neighborhood streets, serving homes across our state and across the country, for the next 30 years. There won't be a reset button," he said.

I guess we can always return to having The Pony Express to carry the mail. It would be a great job for young men and women who enjoy riding horses.
They could save quazillions if they stop delivering me junk. I have to toss out about 50 lbs of junk mail a year. All of my bills have been electronic since the early 2000s. I would say on an average year I get approximately 5 pieces of mail that I need to open.

The USPS plan was to buy a mixed fleet with around 10% being EVs. That's a pretty good start on supplying the eco-nazi areas.

I suggest that we stick to a textualist interpretation of the US Constitution. The US Constitution empowers Congress "To establish Post Offices and post Roads."

Are federal government contracts for EVs in the context of politically correct global warming alarmism just another front-end for unaccountable federal spending, a part of such spending allegedly winding up in the campaign funding of desperate Democrats?
And why are Post Service-untested EVs the perfect, one-size-fits-all solution for alleged climate problems?
In fact, global warming alarmists still haven't explained why greenhouse gasses like methane and CO2 fail to hold down the heat during a midday solar eclipse of an otherwise warm sunny day.

To begin with, state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) technology is still in pioneering stage in my non-expert imo.

But that's not going to stop desperate Democrats from spending somebody else's money to buy a fleet of EVs.
Next, noting that I'm still inclined to believe that that politically correct global warming is a government-manufactured crisis, please consider the following way that one vehicle-dependent company is using less energy.
It's interesting that GE News in February 2017 questioned why USPS trucks don't experiment with avoiding left turns like UPS successfully did.
"UPS have designed their vehicle routing software to eliminate as many left-hand turns as possible (in countries with right-hand traffic). Typically, only 10 percent of the turns are left turns. As a result, the company claims it uses 10m gallons less fuel, emits 20,000 tons less carbon dioxide and delivers 350,000 more packages every year. The efficiency of planning routes with its navigation software this way has even helped the firm cut the number of trucks it uses by 1,100, bringing down the company’s total distance travelled by 28.5 million miles – despite the longer routes." —Why don't USPS trucks experiment with not turning left, at least where turning left typically involves waiting for oncoming traffic, like UPS does?"
Probably at least some EVs would benefit from this approach to saving energy as much as gas-powered vehicles do in many areas.
Note that avoiding left turns would probably effectively "change" residential and business address for some drivers, the same idea as the way that wholesalers like Costco are always moving things around in warehouse so that customers gradually get a better idea of Costco's inventory.
