DALLAS (AP) — Airlines say they are offering options — including refunds in some cases — for people worried about flying now that other passengers aren’t required to wear face masks.
However, the airlines aren’t providing many details. Customers could find themselves at the mercy of workers at airline customer-service centers.
Many people who will be flying in the next few weeks bought their tickets before a federal judge in Florida on Monday struck down the requirement to wear a mask in airports and during flights. That requirement, designed to limit the spread of COVID-19, was due to expire anyway on May 3.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said his airline will be flexible with people who have a weak immune system or are concerned about mask-optional flying for any other reason.
“We are working with those customers ... to find another option, give them a credit, or if they just don’t ever want to fly again, (we are) actually willing to give them a refund,” Kirby told NBC.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said Thursday that the airline hasn’t fielded many refund requests yet.
A Delta Air Lines spokesman said customers who wish to cancel a trip should contact the airline. Decisions about how to handle those requests are made on a case-by-case basis, he said.
Southwest, Alaska, JetBlue, Spirit and Frontier did not reply to inquiries.

Hospitals have used double masking protocol for infectious disease isolation long before covid. One for the patient and one for doctor to keep transmission to minimum.
A mask is just like covering your cough out of courtesy but without risk of missing the cough like people often do with hands. Even without fine filtration it baffles the cough velocity and reduces overall distance the particles can travel.
Openly coughing at full velocity without any covering will achieve far more distance and wetness. I’m sure most of us have felt that nasty wetness when someone coughed suddenly before they could cover up.

American Airlines fielded one from me on 10/27/18. My wife and grand daughter had round trip tickets to Florida to attend our grand son’s wedding. Unfortunately, my wife passed away on that day. American Airlines said they would refund the ticket price for both tickets ($750) never happened. I still have the tickets

If they are wearing a mask WHY does it matter if no one else is wearing one?? It is just like the vax if they are vaxed WHY in the hell does it matter to them if other people are not vaxed?? These people are INSANE, they have not one lick of common sense!!!

Not really. Perhaps TB and what not. NEVER for influenza etc. I have been an IM physician for nearly 30 years.
Agree that wearing masks stops large globules of snot when one coughs / sneezes...large droplets. High quality surgical masks do not stop aerosols, many randomized control studies prove this...well before covid ever came around.
What about if I'm worried about having to sit next to Muslims wearing full-body drapes? They make me feel "unsafe" and "uncomfortable." Do I get a refund, too?

They do for Service Animals and “Therapy”, however I haven’t seen one since. To top this off, on the same cruise was a BLIND LADY....white cane and all, she did NOT have a dog and I never saw her with anyone either!!

Covid is without a doubt more contagious and dangerous than influenza. They use the additional protocol for illness like TB as you mentioned because it DOES help to cut risk and hospital load.
I’m not a physician but am a licensed engineer with my own firm and we frequently design for medical and cleanroom systems. Air currents and aerosols I have studied extensively and applied to countless successful designs. The masks do make sense to me when properly used.
Aerosols will pass ALL materials that are thin enough at some level. Even solid plastic. The difference is the velocity and the quantity that makes a certain distance. They will initially travel in the airstream along with the larger particles so reducing initial velocity is critical to cut down the travel distance of that initial unidirectional dense cloud of aerosols. It can envelop a person like a cloud and even follow their air current as they walk around the room. Until they breathe enough particles to be sick.
Yes, after the initial cough very fine aerosols will spread out and follow natural air currents. In a poorly ventilated room, infection is still possible. However this doesn’t mean masks did nothing. It calls for better HVAC to faster eliminate the remaining aerosols that linger after the mask baffled them. Enhanced HVAC is already part of the covid protocol in every state I worked so far.
HVAC alone cannot baffle that initial dense cloud. Masks alone can’t cut down fine lingering aerosol in a room. It does not mean both measures do nothing. It simply means we need a combination of both to address the different issues.
I’ve worn masks long before covid for entire days on project sites and know they protected my health. Many idiot coworkers who didn’t care developed lung damage from dust and smoke. Masks are no big deal to me and don’t understand why younger people make such a fuss over a very simple measure for health. The most important thing...

Tell the cruise line to get up to speed and BAN all the vaxxxxxxed (who are the majority of the infected people) before they make the purebloods sick.
