Elon Musk Launches Hostile Takeover Bid of Twitter for $43 Billion

Elon Musk has launched a hostile takeover bid of Twitter, offering to purchase the social media company for $43 billion.

Musk, who recently became Twitter’s largest shareholder after quietly purchasing a 9.2% stake over the last several months, said that if his offer is accepted he intends to take the company private.

“I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy,” Musk wrote in a letter to Twitter chairman Bret Taylor. “However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.”

“Twitter has extraordinary potential,” Musk added. “I will unlock it.”

Musk said his offer is “best and final,” adding, “I am not playing the back-and-forth game. I have moved straight to the end. It’s a high price and your shareholders will love it.”

If the offer is rejected, Musk warned, “Given that I don’t have confidence in management nor do I believe I can drive the necessary change in the public market, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder.”

In a statement, Twitter’s Board of Directors said it “will carefully review the proposal to determine the course of action that it believes is in the best interest of the Company and all Twitter stockholders.”

I got a bad feeling that they’re gonna screw Musk somehow.

Maria Bartiromo just had ex SEC chairman Harvey Pitt on and they both suspect brandon will get the SEC to ramp up pressure on Musk in an effort to stop him from succeeding in buying twitter........evil just don’t stop.

Brandon has already more or less halted SpaceX’s Starship using the FAA and the EPA.

Why should the left begin following the rules now.

I’ll be interested in seeing where this goes.

Currently, it seem to me that if you try to post on Twitter something like, “I may not vote for the Democrat next time” then you run the risk of being cancelled. They seems strict in their censorship and their imposition of the proper Narrative.

What would truly free speech look like? Well, I think it might look a little ugly. That’s not good, but it’s not bad either. Will it become a forum where people can say, “The Nazis were right”? or “N-word this” and “N-word that”? and “Here’s what I think of women ...”? That would all be lewd, crude, and rude. But it would be very obviously Free.

If you cannot say horrible things, then your speech isn’t really free. To say it differently: if I’m sitting at home, I am not in a crowded theeater — so, can I type “FIRE!” or is that sort of speech restricted? If so, why? Because once you start down that road, the ending point is pretty much what we have today. Which is bad.

For the record: I favor precisely no restrictions on speech. Ever. Anywhere. No exceptions. People should face the consequences, but censorship should not be one of them.

And I fear it’s gonna only get worse as long as the left is in control.

If it’s one thing they hate it’s a successful business and business man that doesn’t need them....which is why they hate America in general.

+1. He will be forced to drop his bid. It will not be reported that way.

The Twit BoD will probably listen to the bleats, whines of agony and wailing at the sky from its triggered leftist employees and turn the offer down over the best interests of the shareholders.

Just like obama killed the space shuttle.

“The head of the Nasa has said Barack Obama told him to make “reaching out to the Muslim world” one of the space agency’s top priorities”

WTF is that? If that pos ain’t muslim I’ll eat my hat.

There is one issue that needs to be overcome if we move to a truly free speech arena.
That is the false outrage of being offended \on behalf on another group\.

This is a divisive tactic and has recently become a standard in our culture.
This single “ideology” is what begets violence (ref: The NYC subway shooter).

Sharpton and Jackson are no longer first in line to call out any perception of racism in speech.
Who is?
Old, fat, white politicians.

Twitter is a privately owned company.
Free speech is what the owner says it is on his platform.

An offer to buy a public held company and bring it private is NOT a hostile takeover.

It may be hostile toward the current management of the company.

Musk is enjoying twisting the around the minds of Twitter’s leftist cabal.

“Twitter is a privately owned company.”

NO, Twitter is currently a publicly held company, not privately held.

If Twitter accepted Musk's offer, it would be changed to a privately held company.

He’s going to drive the price up, then dump it. Musk is going to make Twitter pay for refusing his offer and make a bundle in the process. When he sells, Twitter will be cash poor and vulnerable.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was simply a rouse by him to drive up stock price and sell it at a huge profit....

My prediction is this is when the left will hate Musk with the kind of hatred you have if you feel someone has betrayed you (remember for years he was a darling of the left).

And they'll start always referring to Musk as: "white South African Elon Musk" to associate him with apartheid and make his name an evil word.

It is not a hostile takeover.

What Is a Hostile Takeover?

investopedia.com

A hostile takeover is the acquisition of one company by another without approval from the target company’s management.
