John Lennon’s son Julian Lennon this weekend performed his late father’s iconic song “Imagine” for the first time to benefit Ukraine.
The eldest Lennon performed the song as part of the Global Citizen’s social media rally, Stand Up For Ukraine. The performance ended the 59-year-old’s previous vow to never perform his dad’s famous work, according to USA Today.
Lennon explained his decision in a YouTube post, saying the “unimaginable tragedy” going on in Ukraine compelled him to respond “in the most significant way I could.”

Oh, no... Don’t make me respect that band!
Dammit. That’s a good song. From the same band that made two of the most unlistenable trash songs of the decade? (”Hole Hearted” and “More Than Words.”)
Some of the guitar solo is very show-offy, but is very impressive.
I don’t think Ukrainians want to hear, “Imagine there’s no countries.”
He was ignored by his father and never inherited anything when his father died. Yoko was in charge that her son got everything. Julian was John’s first son .
You have things wrong about this man
After John's assassination on Dec 8 1980, the song also became inescapable for a few weeks but at least it was tempered by the rather decent (overall) "Double Fantasy" album that had just come out.
For post-Beatles music, I prefer McCartney, followed by Harrison. However Lennon ekes out the rather awful music Ringo put out like "Back Off Boogaloo" and "She's 16".
That said, Ringo is the one Beatle I think I'd like having a few beers with.
For a guy worth a billion (plus)...at a time when a billion was a lot of money...to sing "imagine no possessions" turns my stomach.
Ironic. Communist Russia invades and attacks UKR. so Lennon does a benefit by doing the Communist “anthem”, “Imagine”.
Well, “Imagine” is a weird song, commie inspired and anti religion.
For all of the nice chords, it is trash if you listen to the words.
Where was John Lennon going before he was killed?
Dump those two ballads, and their catalog rocks.
It’s an awful song (lyrically speaking), and a pretty poor rendition of it, honestly.
Only A fool Would Say That
(Written in Response to “Imagine”)
A world become one
Of salads and sun
Only a fool would say that
A boy with a plan
A natural man
Wearing a white stetson hat
Unhand that gun begone
There’s no one to fire upon
If he’s holding it high
He’s telling a lie
I heard it was you
Talkin’ ‘bout a world
Where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And only a fool would say that
The man in the street
Draggin’ his feet
Don’t want to hear the bad news
Imagine your face
There is his place
Standing inside his brown shoes
You do his nine to five
Drag yourself home half alive
And there on the screen
A man with a dream
I heard it was you
Talkin’ ‘bout a world
Where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And only a fool would say that
Anybody on the street
Has murder in his eyes
You feel no pain
And you’re younger
Then you realize
I heard it was you
Talkin’ ‘bout a world
Where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And only a fool would say that

I hate that song.
The song pretty well describes what the Khmer Rouge believed in but they still found plenty of reasons to kill.
Julian isn’t that much of a conservative. Don’t know about his son, Sean.
Stopped listening when he left out the first high note set in the opening (the ooooh—ahh — ahh..ah, ah, ah..).that he’s unable to do.
I guess there really was a reason he’d swore he’d never sing it.
[Speaking of father and son singers, I always thought that the ‘son’ who got closest to his dad was Frank Sinatra Jr.....]
You mean ‘screeched’ it?
“Only a fool would say that”
Steely Dan scolding Lennon’s imagine as out of touch. The man in the brown shoes that has to go every day to work and drag himself home after an nine to five. Imagine that guy listening to some guy on the TV in a Stetson hat talking about a world where all is free. Only a fool would say that.
