I posted this on a Taiwan thread, it also applies here:

Taiwan should develop its own nukes if at all possible, certainly they have the tech knowhow, but it might not be possible to do it in secrecy in the time available.

But they should as rapidly as possible adopt the Swiss national defense model, and arm every capable adult citizen with a modern scope-equipped battle rifle. Then begin universal marksmanship and small unit / guerrilla tactics training.

Taiwan can also mass-produce their own modern MANPAD SAMs and ATGMs, and cache them all over the island. Then give citizens training on how to use them effectively, using video instruction and hands-on inert simulators, so they are ready when the time comes.

Taiwan is 20X bigger than Okinawa. It has 10,000 foot mountains, canyons and caves all over the place. It took the full might of the US Army, Navy and Marines 3 months to subdue Okinawa in 1945, so imagine the difficulty of conquering Taiwan, with a sniper, MANPAD and ATGM squad around every corner. Taiwan could rapidly be made more difficult to invade than it would be worth to the CCP.

Will its leaders do this? Probably not. Politicians don’t want an armed citizenry, lest they turn on them at some point. America, Switzerland and only a few other countries are exceptions to this rule.

Even Ukraine did not adopt this “porcupine strategy” in the face of a looming Russian invasion. So even after the invasion, most Ukrainian men had never touched a firearm in their lives. It’s too much of a learning curve to go from non-shooter to soldier in a week.

That said, there are going to be a lot of weapons left over when this is done. I wonder where they will end up?

Well, they did show up didn’t they? Pretty much on schedule too. It wasn’t hard to count tanks, numerous sources posted commercial satellite images of tank parks near the borders, and even in Byelorussia. If commercial staellites can do that, military ones should be that much better. Satellite recon is perfectly within the US military capabilities, even if they are useless in humint.

our stuff must be pretty much fire and forget…for dummies (and by that I mean untrained folks.)

It's OK, you can say the more common meaning for the expression. If you've ever seen any of the 'comic book' manuals for many of these weapons, you'll understand. God love 'em, there's always been a certain percentage of 'simplicity', shall we say, in low ranking combat specialties.

(…Do not interrupt the Hopium thread…)

But, since we’re hear, it is my belief that Putin knew what the Drooler was before he even had to admit that Trump was out.

When Putin and Biden first met, Putin said, “This is what I get.”

He’s getting it.

The pictures and the video I’m seeing do not align with all of the doom and gloom headlines for Russian prospects.
It appears to me that the ukrainians are getting their asses kicked while Moscow looks like the safest city in America by comparison.

Well, now instead of 56 tanks its 30 helicopters, and instead of one general its two colonels. Same theme different details, which is typical of wars.

This Daily Mail article sounds like neocon propaganda as I’ve seen no evidence to support it, but Ukraine is now saying thousands are dying everyday, too. Oh well, just add it to the propaganda that was debunked here:

India Today, 2/25/22: “Fact Check: Heartbreaking photo of injured child from Syrian war shared as victim of Russia-Ukraine conflict”

India Today, 3/1/22: “2005 photo from West Bank shared as Russian soldier holding Ukrainian girls at gunpoint”

“Ghost of Kyiv” footage turned out to be footage from the 2013 PC game, Digital Combat Simulator: World.

Numerous pictures of Zelensky wearing military garb on 2/24/22 are from him inspecting the border on 4/9/21. Is he still in Kyiv as we’ve been told? Ukrainian lawmaker Ilya Kiva said he fled to Poland.

India Today, 2/27/22: “Fact Check: Happy homecoming of US Marines shared as teary farewell of Ukrainian soldiers amidst the invasion”

India Today, 2/27/22: “Fact Check: This lady soldier with a rifle is neither the Ukraine’s First Lady nor Vice President’s wife”

India Today, 2/27/22: “Fact Check: Old image circulated as Ukrainian children sending-off army for war with Russia”

The media has told us so many lies like the Snake Island soldiers didn’t surrender (the New York Post, Sydney Morning Herald, etc confirmed they’re alive) only to find out they did surrender.

The pic of an old woman with a bloody face and bandaged head? It’s from Magnitogorsk, 2018.

The viral clip of Ukrainian men saying goodbye...Real? No, its from “The War of Chimeras” (2017).

The pic of an old woman with a bloody face and bandaged head supposedlyfrom a recent blast? It’s from the city of Magnitogorsk, 2018.

Women articles with children, saying there’s attacks all around, the end of the world is near, yet somehow they know exactly how many tanks have been blown up.

The “tank” that ran over the old man’s car was Ukrainian.

“Ukrainians should overthrow their illegitimate government.”

Funny, the Ukrainian people strongly disagree. And Zelensky’s election was a win that beat the Putin Puppet he ran against, whose previous election was most certainly illegitimate.

Did you actually see those 100k+ Russian troop

Pictures were in all the major daily newspapers, videos on BBC etc, especially in Europe.

Or did you just take CIA's word for it?

Does anyone actually take the CIA's word on anything, given their terrible record?

17,000 NLAWS have arrived in the Ukraine over the past week.

That is a game changer. Tanks are now like battleships. Targeted dinosaurs.

The number of MANPADS arriving is also staggering.

All of this really changes the force projections.

Putin never thought that West would respond in this manner. He screwed up big time and is now trying to squirm out.

Putin has more than that, much more if he calls up the reserves. Technically he can mobilize a couple of million.
But a) does he want to call up the reserves, which cannot be popular, and b) does he want to commit so many more to this operation, and strip Russia’s long borders?

Yea, I see the stalling out and bringing in Chechnya and Belarus an obvious sign Putin knew in the first two days he needed more men. The problem is with war on this theater, there are plenty of weapons Ukraine can get if given time and a perception of strength. The West is all happy to help Ukraine kill Russians in this scenario.

This is the kind of war that becomes profitable for military contractors and weapons dealers. Long and protracted with determined war spirit on both sides. Ukraine and Putin are fighting for survival in front of us.

Hey, troll-boi.

Putin is winning.

Why do you think all this economic pressure is being brought to bear (Visa and Mastercard pulling out of Russia, Apple pulling out of Russia, Price Waterhouse Cooper and other consulting firms pulling out of Russia)?

We didn’t even do that to Iraq during the Gulf Wars, nor to Afghanistan after 9-11.
