Putin's invasion grinds to a halt: Kyiv claims to have destroyed dozens of Russian helicopters overnight, retaken a city, and killed 11,000 troops while Russians have captured no significant territory sparking hopes Ukraine could win the war

Russia's invasion of Ukraine appears to have ground to a halt with no significant territory captured despite a weekend of heavy fighting, with Kyiv's men claiming to have taken out dozens of helicopters and recaptured a city this morning - sparking hopes that the unlikeliest of victories may be on the cards.

Putin's men renewed their bombardments on Mariupol, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv this morning as his forces also tried to surround Kyiv in preparation for an assault, but have not significantly advanced their frontline since the city of Kherson and nuclear power plant at Zaporizhzhia were captured last week.

Meanwhile the Ukrainian armed forces claimed to have destroyed up to 30 Russian helicopters that had been moved to Chornobaivka airport, near Kherson, overnight and to have retaken the city of Chuhuiv, near Kharkiv, killing two Russian commanders - Lt. Col. Dmitry Safronov, and Lt Col. Denis Glebov - in the process.

Russia also tacitly acknowledged the loss of two other commanders - Colonel Konstantin Zizevsky and Lieutenant Colonel Denis Glebov - whose funerals were held in Russia at the weekend.

Video also emerged which appeared to show Ukrainian defence forces based in Odessa, the country's largest port, exchanging fire with ships overnight - one of which suffers a hit. Ukraine's ministry of defence has since claimed the vessel was destroyed.

-snip-

US intelligence believes Russia has committed 95 per cent of the invasion force it had assembled on Ukraine's border to the fight, meaning significant reinforcements to push its attacks forward are unlikely to come soon - and could simply run into many of the same logistical problems that plagued the early assault.

Putin doesn’t want Ukraine in the EU because he doesn’t want an economically successful Ukraine to contrast with Russia. That’s why I think selling it as being like Austria might work. There are a few EU members not in NATO.

Putin is bringing in Syrians to fight on top of the Chechen muslim thugs he used before. The Ukrainians will be furious and will treat them like the Chechens, slaughter them to a man.

There were no photos that themselves proved there were 100,000 Russian troops on that border.

Of course not
You cannot have one picture in a newspaper showing 100,000 troops along along a very long 1,426 mile border.
Point is there were lots of pictures of big numbers of Russian troops massed along the border.
It wasn’t exactly a secret.
You didn't need the CIA to tell you that.

This invasion is the greatest sales pitch NATO could ever make, n’est-ce pas? Thats just one reason it was so stupid.

Ukraine asked for NATO membership in 2004, and NATO has been blowing them off since then. There has been no romancing.

In any case, again after all this, what sort of support would a regime imposed by Russia have? It will be seen as a Russian puppet by everyone in or out of Ukraine. Wars change things.

This whole business of Russian-Ukrainian relations, over the course of Putins regime, has been extremely stupid. Putin has been at various times petty, vicious, expedient, you name it.

I see articles on copying tactics used in Syria but nothing about Putin bringing Syrians to fight.

Can you give me a link?

It would take quite a lot to make Ukraine look good, EU or not. Heck, Albania is almost in the EU.

So it is over? Have they decided who will take Putin’s place?

They all think they will be the one.

Isn’t this the same DAILY MAIL that Freepers often PRAISE (using upper case to parody how the Daily Mail often uses UPPER CASE in its Subheads) for posting stories about corruption and abuses unleashed by Biden administration, Obama administration, Clinton administration, deep state, LIBERALS, etc?

It’s the usual thing: Freepers will praise polls that support their views and lambaste polls that don’t.

I agree that the truth is somewhere in between a complete Russian takeover of all of Ukraine because “this will be over in 24-48 hours” as the armchair generals here grandly predicted at the outset and “Ukraine tanks now surround the Kremlin in the final assault on Putin’s bunker”

We’re not going to know until the aftermath.

I think the bigger questions regarding Ukraine instead of Russia is a bad guy or the Lindsey Graham approach are the following:

1. What in the way of Hunter Biden corruption has Russia uncovered? Are they prepared to share?
2. Were Bio Labs destroyed? Whose were they?
3. Was money landering operations uncovered? USA? Who?
4. Romney, Biden, Pelosi all had family members installed in Ukraine. Why? Has Putin found evidence of dirty dealing?
5. Why is Bill Clinton suddenly attempting to reinvigorate his Clinton Initiative? Does he or she need money? Did they lose money in Ukraine?
And last but not least, Lindsey Graham has been in political office for decades. He has seen war atrocities and just about every type of evil imaginable, so why call for Putin’s murder now? Silly emotional mistake? I don’t think so. What is he afraid of?

We need Donald Trump back in the WH.

We didn’t even do that to Iraq during the Gulf Wars, nor to Afghanistan after 9-11.

Visa, Mastercard, Apple and Price Waterhouse Cooper had a presence in Afghanistan?

To: Its All Over Except ...

Please remember that the next time the Daily Mail does an expose on corruption unleashed by the Biden administration, liberals, neocons, never Trumpers, or the Deep State — you’re not allowed to believe that either.

It’s a war, and the real truth — whatever is actually going on — got evacuated with the first load of refugees. We won’t know and we won’t be allowed to know until somebody gives up, is assassinated, or deposed.

But it’s amusing that the same Daily Mail that is often a beacon of truth on Free Republic is suddenly a NeoCon lackey and lickspittle when the narrative counters the prevailing wisdom of whoever.

Ironically, Putin just proved to all of Europe exactly why NATO is so necessary. You don’t think the Baltic States, Poland, etc., aren’t thanking their lucky stars they’re now in NATO?

It was a coup.

A coup where 328 members of parliament removed Yanucovych, and where several national elections have been held since then with a super majority of Ukrainians opposing Russia and supporting the removal of Yanucovych?

Maybe you don't know what the word "coup" means.

The war photos appearing online are absolutely astounding. This will go down in history as one of the most lopsided victories in world history.

Russia’s armor is being obliterated by Javelins, RPG’s, and the other anti-tank missiles. A LOT of Russia’s equipment has been abandoned and taken by Ukraine’s forces. A LOT of Russia’s equipment has broken down in route to the battles (wheels come off, flat tires, failure to start, dead batteries, no brakes) and destroyed, captured, or raided by Ukraine. Russia’s troops fail to fight back much of the time and are taken prisoner easily. Stingers and other anti-aircraft fire is bringing down both jets and helicopters. Many Russian vehicles have pathetic “protection” from RPG’s (wooden logs mounted to the sides). There is a 40 mile long convoy (plus more smaller ones) that can’t move.

No one has ever seen anything like this before. Russia’s military power is gone, sapped by Putler and his oligarch’s.
