The taxpayer-funded, left-wing National Public Radio (NPR) suggested that if the United States lifted sanctions on Iran’s oil operations, it could help lessen the cost of energy for U.S. consumers.
“So energy prices were already high before the Russian invasion. Have they gotten worse since?” Weekend Edition All Things Considered Host Michel Martin asked a reporter.
The reporter answered. “Oil prices spiked initially. They went above $100 a barrel very quickly for the first time since 2014, then they calmed back down. They settled at about $98 on Friday. Trading paused for the weekend, and it’s just starting again in some parts of the world. And I have to say, the only word for this moment on these markets is uncertainty.”
Martin claimed the “worst fears for energy markets have not played out” because, the reporter confirmed, the U.S. has yet to halt Russia’s oil operations — including imports to the United States.
“That’s not to say that we have a dependence on Russia,” Daleep Singh, economic adviser for the White House, said at a briefing last week. “Russia depends on those revenues just as much as the world needs its energy. But we’re not going to do anything which causes an unintended disruption to the flow of energy, as the global economic recovery is still underway.”
The reporter said the Biden administration wants to solve high gas prices and other energy costs by getting OPEC+ to produce more oil, which it has refused to do.
The reporter suggested that appeasing Iran could also help with energy costs.
“Last but not least, there’s the possibility of a new nuclear deal with Iran,” she said. “Iran’s a major oil producer that’s been under U.S. sanctions. If there’s a breakthrough and all that oil comes back on markets, prices could come down.”

Apparently Iran’s oil and the thousands of miles of shipping pollutes less than domestic oil. Plus we can fund terrorism like we are funding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine - even more “progress”

We should not vote for any candidate who won’t commit to de-funding NPR. After all, if they won’t do that there’s little chance of them doing anything else to turn the country around.
decisions. Decisions. Which evil dictator to support.
And here’s an example of Biden’s DEMOCRACY choosing winners and losers in a supposed capitalistic system. It’s crony capitalism, and very few will understand how rotten it is.
Pump oil in the USA that works .... no coulda or mights.
Why is Iran restricted and what about THAT has changed?
I’m going to guess nothing. Looks like someone just wants to keep a lid on American energy production.
Hey NPR, American production/refining is the cleanest in the world. Why us dirty producers that hate us????????
That doesn’t help Gaia, but it hurts everyone on it.
Well the fad of the moment is if Soros or the Bilderburgers or the NY Times are against Iran, you are supposed to put on a cheerleading outfit for them. “Give me an I. Give me an R...”
Iran is Mullah Biden’s new Keystone pipeline.
Geez. Sure hope biDUHn was tuned in. Maybe he could talk about it tonight.
Incredible! How about lifting sanctions on OUR OWN oil and gas productions?
1) Iran has been shipping oil north to the Caspian, where it traverses to Russia, who blends it with their own and sells it. Iran gets paid less than they might in this way, but once again we see that money is pretense. The barrels of oil per day out of Iran likely would not change much. They would get more money, but the world would get no more oil. So . . . no reason the price would fall.
2) The really ugly thing is US oil production is not really down all that much. It has recovered from the Covid consumption decline, and that decline was never very much. US max oil production was 12.7 million bpd and that year consumption was 21 mbpd. (In other words “independence” was always contorted definition bullshit. It required counting coal)
3) US production is now 11.7 mbpd. You can’t snap your fingers and get back to 12.7 mbpd because shale wells die so rapidly. You have to drill frantically to overcome the declines in the already existing wells. There are now so many legacy wells that the effort to overcome the cumulative decline may be physically impossible.
4) In other words, oil is finite. So is life, because if you can’t move food from farm to store shelf, people die.
So could removing restrictions on Keystone XL, Federal oil leases, offshore drilling, and fracking, and as a bonus none of these activities would provide finances to a regime seeking nuclear weapons.
Circumspect reasoning!
Liberals advocate for all enemies of the US. No pro-American pro-Canadian Keystone pipeline, but we should buy oil from Russia and Iran.
Communists have no problem with oil from our enemies, it’s just our oil that is evil.
So we can provide funds to hasten their development of nuclear weapons and have to deal with another Putin on the world stage? No thank you.
And if we could help the Iranians build Nuclear Power Plants and get Uranium, they could generate electricity for their country and electric cars, and we could free up even more oil.
How about we send 444 nuclear scientists and engineers there, with pallet loads of US Greenbacks, right away!
That should show Putin who's Boss.
So we are going to shift money from one enemy to another when we could eliminate both buy increasing domestic oil production. There is no shortage of stupidity in this world.
