Zelenskyy, reportedly' asked Bennett on Friday' if Israel could serve as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine.
On Sunday afternoon, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett by telephone.
Bennett reportedly offered to serve as a mediator in the war in Ukraine to de-escalate tensions and bring fighting to an end.
The Kremlin has not commented on whether Putin accepted Bennett’s offer.
The call with Bennett then raised yet more questions.
Might Putin be looking for a diplomatic way out of the war in Ukraine, and thus might be inclined to accept Bennett’s offer?
Or is Putin actually doubling down in Ukraine, confusing his enemies by simultaneously showing some openness to diplomacy while also threatening the use of nuclear weapons?

Interesting twist.....
Am not exactly comfortable that Zelensky called on Israel to step up to the plate.....(even though he’s Jewish).....however I don’t think Putin nor Zelensky any longer trust any of the G-7 Leadership as of date.
But this raises questions indeed on why bring Israel into this mess.
Good. I’m glad Zelensky and Putin are not soley relying on America to intervene diplomatically. We don’t have the right president or administration for that right now and most of the world already knows this. Israel is closer to the action anyway. They should be involved at this stage, before more heavy artillery is deployed.
America is part of the problem so we should stay out.
Because both Russia and Ukraine trust Israel more than any other option. You answered your own question.
I’m uneasy about bringing Israel into this equation. And that Zelinsky requested Israel get involved.

The longer the war goes on, the more political and economic damage to Putin and Russia. While there are Ukrainian citizens dying every day, for every day the war continues, and as long as they don’t lose, the more bargaining power the Ukrainians have. This is just the cold calculous of this conflict.
I suspect Putin is shocked by the response of the Russian people. When people know they will be arrested for protesting and they do it anyway, that demonstrates a level of disaffection totally unexpected. Putin probably expected a wave of patriotism like he’s experienced before. But not this time. He misjudged the situation, and he must know that by now. Putin needs a face-saving way out. The secret of ending the war is to give Putin some political bone while getting him to withdraw at the same time. (How that’s done, I have no idea. but that’s why we have diplomats. The problem is, I’ve met a few Department of State people. They were gay, waffly, and focused in on unicorns and fairies.)
True....however Zelensky doesn’t make a move without Nato/US approval. And further should Israel agree to this and in the course of mediation doesn’t favor Putin in the way he’d like.....He could take out his anger on Israel because Israel is the US footprint in that area.
Israel condemned the invasion and encouraged its citizens to go fight for Ukraine. They got themselves into this mess. Russia may not be so helpful the next time Israel wants to raid into Syria. They just called Jerusalem a palestinian city and the Golan heights, Syrian territory,
Well it’s very high stakes diplomacy at this juncture when you have the Nuclear option being waved about by both sides.
Still I can’t shake off the ‘danger’ this could put Israel in if Bennett favors Ukraine too much. Israel is our footprint in that area of the world....Putin knows this. Right now tensions are practically off the scale in that part of the world....it’s a very dicey situation.

Commenting on the situation in Ukraine does not put someone directly involved as being a mediator between the two sides. Many nation leaders have commented on this but are not directly involved.
Putin has already declared that the Golan is Syrian. So Bennett might be tempted to take Putin’s side to alter Putin’s outlook. Or at least Putin might think so. Of course if Putin is willing to ally with Assad it doesn’t say much about his choice of dependable allied

Bennett is hard right, everyone else is left of center.
It’s been well known if any one in that neighborhood wanted to hurt the US they could go after Israel in a big way....and Putin knows this too.
I do believe if Putin did that all the forces of Europe and the US would come down hard militarily on him and he’d run back to Russia like a raging tiger but with his tale between his legs........However he wouldn’t be done.....he’d regroup (over a period of time) and the next time come in with Iran and the other ME nations....with China bringing up the rear. Putin knows he can’t fight this alone now.
It really doesn’t matter right now what Putin said about the Golan Heights.....only that it certainly made the Islamic states happy he said that. But Putin is very very cunning and wants to gain further allies.....he knows how to play both sides to the middle.
I had the pleasure to attend a presentation by the Israeli chargé d’affaires. I was really impressed. This was at Ruby Diamond auditorium at FSU and there were about ten American pro Palestinian demonstrators. (We sat right next to them and I was dressed to have my front and profile picture taken.) The diplomat said, “I understand there are some Palestinian protesters here. Would you stand up and introduce yourselves?” I tried not to laugh as the guy beside me stood and slowly, then the others. They looked like they were about to be shot. The diplomat then said, “I’m guessing you’d like to say something. Will one of you come up here and speak for a few minutes about your concerns?” The guy beside me went up and made a horrible presentation, which the diplomate actually helped him with by organizing his complaints. When he was done the diplomat asked, “I want to make sure you’ve said everything you’d like to say. Is that it?” Yes, it was. And, after that they sat and listened looking for all the world like whipped dogs. Then, the diplomat addressed everything he’d said, very well and in detail. He tore apart their arguments without being insulting. It was AWESOME!
If Israel mediates both sides will feel like they were treated fairly. I guarantee it.

Well Putin is dealing with an Israeli “newbee”.....I believe he knows trying to negotiate with the “60’s” era leadership is fruitless. From our leadership to France and Germany it’s always been the same tag team he’s had to contend with and why nothing changed......they want Russia to always be the enemy.
Bush and Trump knew how to ‘deal’ with Putin sufficient to keep him content....for two reasons....they Respected him as a leader and he knew that....and they knew what he wanted and why....so they understood him. Both of these is paramount to Putin. Respect and Understanding for himself and his country.
So when you have someone swinging a bat like Obama did during his terms ....who thought he was now the Worlds fist against Putin....it was not surprising it drove Putin closer to China and Asia nations. And we have Obamas administration still running the show in Washington.
I gave it a search. I even went to their website but couldn’t figure out how to look from there. I believe it was recorded. I seem to recall having found it at one time shortly after the event, which was probably around 2010. The guy was an amazing speaker. Logical. Persuasive. And the way he disarmed a potentially dangerous group was incredible to watch.
