Politicians in the United States and around the world condemned the Canadian government after it announced it would use anti-terrorism laws to quell a peaceful protest of its own citizens.
“We are broadening the scope of Canada’s anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules, so that they cover crowdfunding platforms and the payment service providers they use,” said Canadian deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland at a press conference yesterday.
“These changes cover all forms of transactions including digital assets such as cryptocurrencies.”
“The illegal blockades have highlighted the fact that crowdfunding platforms and some of the payment service providers they use are not fully captured under the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act.”
The Canadian government’s use of terrorism laws against a peaceful movement of its own citizens drew international condemnation.
The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, said Canada had lost its credibility on matters of democracy and freedom.
“Are these the people who like to give lessons to other countries about democracy and freedom?” asked Bukele. “This is one of the top ranking countries in the ‘democracy index’? Your credibility on these topics is now worth 0.”
Two candidates for the U.S. Senate in Ohio, J.D. Vance and Josh Mandel, also condemned the Canadian government’s actions.
“This is why crypto is taking off,” said Vance. “The regime will cut off your access to banking if you have the wrong politics.”
“If you think Biden is above this level of tyranny think again,” said Mandel. “Yet another reason why freedom-loving Americans should advance the cause of Bitcoin.”
“Trudeau has shown himself to be a psychopath,” said Arizona senate candidate Blake Masters.

Chrystia Macht Freiland?
Canada’s government had it’s nose so far up everyone’s ass,
it was only a matter of time for everyone to grow weary of
it and pass gas.
I don’t think Trudeau will last long in his current position.
He and his party are about to be relegated to the broom
closet.
Are the Tories really much better?
Canada is sliding into dictatorship.
Trudeau is not going to relinquish his dictatorial powers now that he has them. The ‘emergency’ will not end so long as that prick remains in power.
And chatter has it he’s shortly going to prorogue (suspend) parliament and that would prevent a vote of no confidence to oust the bastard. Oh, and forget elections. There are not going to be any elections during a never-ending state of martial law.
And, in other news, Gereralisimo Francisco Fraco is still dead.
pm blackface has entered proto-mao/stalin/hitler status. It is beyond the pale of law, of legal protection, of any claim on human decency, sympathy or mercy.
Strong message from Bukele
” chatter has it he’s shortly going to prorogue (suspend) parliament”
Well, that would just leave one box to open. History repeats. Marie Antoinette, Mussilini...
I didn’t think they had such a good sense of humour. And I can’t find any evidence of it.
If you have the ability to know a person is connect to the internet and how they are connecting there isn’t much they won’t be able to prevent. What is more if you’re able to coerce companies into revealing certain details about connections...even better for them. All of the secure connections people rely on are based on trust, those trust authorities can break the trust and thus break encryption. You don’t need to break crypto necessarily. Just need to prevent access to it.
that's a fact
LOL!
All that would kinda narrow down the options, eh ?
(asking for a friend ;-)
Justin Trudeau is a dictator
“All that would kinda narrow down the options, eh?”
Indeed it does.
What will follow now will be an ideological purge of law enforcement to make sure that anyone with any foolish notions of upholding their oath is kicked off the force to make way for the usual good squad that happily supports dictators, rapes women and boys, and mindlessly kills puppies.
Well, one thing you can say for it - so far 2022 hasn’t been dull.
Infurating, clarion-like, hopeful-ish, but not dull.
Not an issue at Coutts, AB any more, as the protestors have left.
Tyrants never willingly give up their tyranny.
2015 was like that.
