Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency Friday in light of the winter storm expected to pummel the Eastern Seaboard with snow throughout the weekend's start.
The order will take effect at 5 p.m. Friday and includes a commercial vehicle travel ban.
Murphy urged all residents to stay off the roads if possible.
"We expect low visibility and tough travel conditions," Murphy said at the Friday morning press conference. "So, let’s leave the roads empty for crews to do their jobs."

He’s a Commie, Jim...
Let’s see if the tyrannical phucker requires people to wear masks as part of the emergency, just to show he’s boss. Only slightly kidding.
Quick, Phil, let’s kill more seniors.
Only if they try to show up at emergency shelters.

masks.....
Not far off. He may say if you are stranded and freezing, don’t accept a ride in a rescue van or allow your car to be towed if the drivers are not wearing N95 masks and show you up to date vax cards.
Its snowing. Emergency! Emergency!
Oh and it all because of Climate change.
What else can that clown do besides declaring emergencies and then going out to dinner with his family.
Snowing at night with 40 mile/HR winds for over 3 hours. Got to be a damn fool to drive in that
It’s winter. It’s a storm. The East Coast has never seen a winter storm. Climate change will kill us all; 9 years left.
IF the high end of the NWS forecast for Boston pans out, they could get over 2’ of snow. The actual range is 18” to 29”. Good chance someone between Boston-Plymouth-Providence will get 30”. Wind gusts to 55 mph.
Pretty good little snowstorm. NWS says “Travel could be very difficult.” No kidding...
More likely, Commissar Murphy will tell you that if you don't show your vax card, you and your vehicle will be plowed off the road and left there in a ditch until Global Warming re-asserts itself and the snow melts. If you freeze to death, that's your fault.
He’s right.
That said, a state of emergency declaration isn’t just about ordering people around, but allowing for emergency protocols to be put in place for dealing with the aftermath of the storm.
People need to get a grip on what a state of emergency is really for.
I was the last car over the Betsy Ross bridge for Hurricane Sandy. That ride was scarry. I wish they had closed it before I got there!
Lots of (snow) reports of 20” or more by mid-afternoon.
