In order to match the 2,000 cars that a typical filling station can service in a busy 12 hours, an EV charging station would require 600, 50-watt chargers at an estimated cost of $24 million and a supply of 30 megawatts of power from the grid. That is enough to power 20,000 homes. No one likely thinks about the fact that it can take 30 minutes to 8 hours to recharge a vehicle between empty or just topping off. What are the drivers doing during that time?
ICSC-Canada board member New Zealand-based consulting engineer Bryan Leyland describes why installing electric car charging stations in a city is impractical:
“If you’ve got cars coming into a petrol station, they would stay for an average of five minutes. If you’ve got cars coming into an electric charging station, they would be at least 30 minutes, possibly an hour, but let’s say its 30 minutes. So that’s six times the surface area to park the cars while they’re being charged. So, multiply every petrol station in a city by six. Where are you going to find the place to put them?”
The government of the United Kingdom is already starting to plan for power shortages caused by the charging of thousands of EVs. Starting in June 2022, the government will restrict the time of day you can charge your EV battery. To do this, they will employ smart meters that are programmed to automatically switch off EV charging in peak times to avoid potential blackouts.

Check with an electrical engineer for what size wiring would be required to deliver 50 kilowatts of power in 10 minutes.
then multiply that by 600 stations.
and you think the grid can handle the draw regardless of where it’s coming from?
or that we have the power generation capacity?
or the rare minerals required for the battery?
As with the China virus exploitation to increase the government’s control over us, the same applies to the electric vehicle craze to stop climate change. It is a NWO ruse designed to control individual mobility to hamper civilians resistance against those who are hell bent on “their fundamentally changing” this United States of America as the Obozo promised would happen.
any of those companies thinking about where the power required to charge those batteries is gonna come from?
ya, didn’t think so.
So far the only public chargers I’ve seen are at convenience stores.
I’ve also wondered if a battery swapping scheme makes more sense than recharging. It’s all academic though unless governments are willing to add much more generating capacity. And they’re not willing to do that unless it’s “renewable” energy so good luck with that.
That model sounds good.
I thought some states were prohibiting charging in the garage because of fires.
Uh sure. Like the ones in front of Dunkin Donuts. I have NEVER seen a car charging there. Not once. It makes me very curious when someone on my side spouts this prattle.
Ho ho, the switch is off, this way would not work!
He’s all in on the COVID insanity too.
Disingenuous from the first sentence.
Most EVs are charged at home most of the time.
Most ICE vehicles are filled at stations most of the time.
No comparison.
but for lefturd loons, wishful thinking & fantasies = reality

“To do this, they will employ smart meters that are programmed to automatically switch off EV charging in peak times to avoid potential blackouts.”
Musk has an app to deal with that.
One nitwit in my circle of business associates spend two days last year taking what should have been a four-hour drive on a long summer weekend. He couldn't find a place to charge his EV battery, and the information he found online when planning the trip turned out to be inaccurate.
“ More fear porn of EV’s.”
Comparable arguments were made about digital cameras, credit cards, voicemail, cellphones, email, and a myriad of new tech. Lots of persuasive reasons to not adopt new tech … then nearly everyone adopted them seemingly overnight.
Yes EVs aren’t ideal for all uses everywhere in all cases, but they’re rapidly improving and are reaching the point where deficiencies are eclipsed by benefits.
“1. Standardize battery modules between manufacturers.
2. Shift to easily replaceable batteries.
3. Pull into an EV service station, and the automated machine swaps out your low charge modules for freshly charged ones.
4. Off you go in 5 minutes.
5. The automated system charges your removed modules in a rack, performs a wellness check and prepares it and other in inventory for the next vehicle in line.”
Won’t work, as they’ll have to charge for depreciation of the battery pack, along with the electricity to charge it (of course). That will make the per-mile cost of driving the EV more than driving a gas engine.
That’s why it’s not being seriously proposed at this time.
“The us gov’t is increasing money to expand and fortify the grid. 177 new natural gas power plants are being built right now across the US. 2 of the largest coal powered plants in the US on the Ohio River have been given federal approval to supply power to at least 2050.”
So what’s the point of electric cars if they’re getting their power from fossil fuels?
When any activity, product, medicine, or technology, is pushed by government, over all other choices, only an effin dumbass would fail to be suspicious.
“And now Canada is investigating Tesla because their EVs are not putting out enough heat to defrost windshields in the cold weather.”
Musk has an app for that too.
