The Department of Justice on Jan. 3 announced a new rule for firearm safety and storage, set to take effect on Feb. 3.
The new rule implements the existing Gun Control Act requirement that imposes strict licensing and regulation on the firearms industry, and states that federal firearms licensees (FFLs) that sell firearms to the general public must certify that they have available secure gun storage or safety device.
The act defines secure gun storage or safety devices as “a device that, when installed on a firearm, is designed to prevent the firearm from being operated without first deactivating the device,” “a device incorporated into the design of the firearm that is designed to prevent the operation of the firearm by anyone not having access to the device,” and “a safe, gun safe, gun case, lock box, or other device that is designed to be or can be used to store a firearm and that is designed to be unlocked only by means of a key, a combination, or other similar means.”

In other words, make and continue to make this retail business more and more expensive.
What is the plan to deal with the people who shoot the guns? What about absent fathers?
All my firearms are equipped with a one-finger safety.
Every epochtimes article I’ve tried to read lately has been Premium content.
How about hyper-violent urban minority culture?
I could argue that every firearm with a safety meets this regulation.
“Oh yeah. I’ll bet that most FFL people just leave their guns lying around unsecured. Yep. Another example of the true genius of government.”
This is a precursor to requiring all gun owners to keep them stored at all times. Effectively ending Constitutional carry laws.
Many more persons are “killed by cars than killed by guns”. When will car dealers be required to sell garages with vault-type combination locks?
Enforce it.
Start with the gangs.
Please.

AOC and the Squad: Why didn’t we think of that? Let’s get the legislation written and hand it to Nancy. Make it retroactive to all car and all garages, except our Teslas.
Here is a link to the proposed regulation: https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2021-28398.pdf
The new regulation requires FFL’s to provide the following at the point of sale:
“Secure gun storage or safety device. (1) A device that, when installed on a firearm, is designed to prevent the firearm from being operated without first deactivating the device;
(2) A device incorporated into the design of the firearm that is designed to prevent the operation of the firearm by anyone not having access to the device; or (3) A safe, gun safe, gun case, lock box, or other device that is designed to be or can be used to store a firearm and that is designed to be unlocked only by means of a key, a combination, or other similar means.”
The new regulation will have little, if any, impact upon FFL’s because nearly all new firearms are sold with a safety lock that can only be opened with a key or combination, and therefore, the FFL’s are already in compliance, except for the added paperwork (certification). The only real burden would apply to the sale or consignment of used firearms if the locking device that came with the firearm when sold new cannot be found or no longer exists. I suspect however, that most FFL’s have a box or two of unused locks that would bring the FFL into compliance with the new regulations.
Photo of Joe and O’Rourke the gun grabbers....
They believe their bluster is causing gun owners to tremble and shake with fear. Beto is so domineering looking./S
Please.
Their safety device is under the mattress. That counts doesn't it? Besides, making minorities get a gun safe denies them their right to vote and it's racist!
Some kindly grandmother in Des Moines might obey this stupid illegal edict
First off, please don’t post links to paywalled sites - very rude.
Second, this does not require anyone to purchase a safety device. Gun sellers only have to sell them now. No additional purchases required.
And yes, I agree it is another foot on the slippery slope to denying your 2A rights.
Woah - no need to go all racist on us here....
