Furious drivers stranded on I-95 in Virginia for more than 20 hours without gas, food and water are demanding that Governor Ralph Northam speed up rescue efforts as they resort to calling DoorDash in a dire effort to get food.
'We have to find a way to get national guard here. Diabetics and babies down here. People are going die here,' a friend told NBC's Jim Scarborough, who tweeted the quote in a plea to get people rescued faster as the 50-mile stretch of highway south of the nation’s capital was still closed Tuesday morning after six tractor-trailers jackknifed the day before.
Jim DeFede, who has been stuck on the interstate just south of Quantico for the past 24 hours, called I-95 'a complete parking lot' and was growing angry as his woes weren't answered and emergency personnel were not coming to his rescue.
'I don't know who's in charge but somebody better do something because there are cars and families just trapped here this entire time and nobody seems to be coming.
'I haven't seen a state trooper in at least 12 hours. I haven't seen a tow truck in at least 14 hours,' DeFede said in a video posted to Twitter.
Meanwhile, it appeared as though Northam was hoping the sun would help melt the snow and clear traffic. 'Sunlight is expected to help @VaDOT clear the road,' he said on Twitter.
But DeFede said that as of this morning, the road was still covered in ice.(snip)
Virginia State Senator Tim Kaine (snip) revealed that he is one of the people stuck in the snowy pile-up in a tweet early Tuesday that read: 'I started my normal 2 hour drive to DC at 1pm yesterday. 19 hours later, I’m still not near the Capitol.'

In the early and mid 70s, my first job had me driving to remote power plant and paper mill locations all over the western states. My car was never without a sleeping bag, a Sterno stove, canned food, can opener, propane bottles, propane stove, candles, signal mirror, matches, water, shovel, sand, whistle, etc. Oh, coffee grinder, beans and a coffee pot, too. Must not forget those.
I was no trained survivalist, but had read enough to know what to do and how to prepare.

I had read there was a six tractor-triler pile up that started all this. Anyone confirm?
Kind of reminds me of the blizzard of ‘78 in Massachusetts. I was working in Worcester, living 30 miles north in NH. I left work a little early and beat the snow. Many of my co-workers that lived S, E or W got stuck on the highways overnight and a good number were taken to shelters for several days. The whole state was shut down for a week. Meanwhile, everything was pretty much normal in NH even though we got as much snow.
Given the advance warning, how did the governor screw up? Seems to me that the people who screwed up are the ones who decided to ignore the warnings and travel during a major snow storm in motor vehicles that are not equipped for winter travel. Once again, no personal responsibility.
7-10 inches is not usual for DC metro. Also, just about any amount of snow can be a problem if it falls during rush hour. Supposedly, a few semis crashed and then everything went haywire.

Like my dad used to say when we were stationed in the DC area and snowfalls would paralyze everything:
“You would think it never snows here.”
Today far too many lead lives of personal helplessness where they rely on others to do the do their thinking and planning.
Then they expect others to pull their chestnuts out of the fire when they do something foolish or stupid.
Like venturing out unprepared into an area where a major storm is imminent.
And they get demanding and indignant if someone doesn't immediately come to their rescue.
Remember the Katrina hordes who were too stupid to even fill a plastic bottle with clean drinking water as they sat on their duffs in the path of a major hussicane?
Well... their brothers and sisters in spirit just got snowed in on I-95.

You're talking about people who can't make a meal at home and order a cold burger from uber eats. These people can barely wipe their own nose.
I live in Pittsburgh. In my mind, that is still “East Coast,” so when I hear of storms coming to the East Coast, I listen. Don’t know when I first heard of it, but it seems it has been a little while. I think it was before Sunday, but I could be wrong.
It would just be another day in Upstate NY!!!
