We all know that history is not the left’s favorite subject. Many times, it’s just too inconvenient for their political narratives. Often, history has to be erased or submerged in order to achieve the “greater good” of creating a just and moral society.
In truth, it’s not much better on the right, although generally, the conservative take on American history is more nuanced. Christopher Columbus was an ass — a greedy, cruel, ambitious man who didn’t let anyone stand in his way to achieving riches and power, especially native people. But he was courageous enough to cross an unknown ocean in a rickety ship and with a mutinous crew.
Do his sins outweigh the good he’s done? Not our call. And certainly not the call of biased, cretinous leftists who don’t want to understand Columbus and only use his sins as illustrations in their little morality plays to condemn the entire “Age of Exploration.”
American history did not begin in 1492. There have been human beings residing in North America for at least 20,000 years and probably longer. But the people who crossed the Bering Sea land bridge from Asia to North America during the last Ice Age may not have been the first humans to arrive here. Recent DNA evidence shows that there have been several different migrations to North America with Native American tribes only being the most recent.
And that leads to the inescapable conclusion: the Native Americans who were present on the North American continent when Europeans arrived were not the same Native Americans who arrived 20,000 years ago. DNA evidence tracks the migration of one early American civilization — the Clovis people, so-called because the first tools and weapons were found in Clovis, New Mexico —

various tribes butchered each other, drove each other out of certain areas, wiped each other out, etc.
For example the Black Hills which the Sioux hold as sacred they took from the Kiowa who held them earlier. The Commanche drove out and dominated several other nearby tribes.

HUH? You mean they didn’t just sit around the hogan/teepee/kiva or whatever and get high all day long?. Sadly, history is no longer recognized as a valid tool. Brutal? Uh yeah. History to a lot of “them” is what they dream it ‘should’ have been.
I know
“It’s theirs to change.”
But at what point do the changes overlap with previous changes? Many times they go through a number of changes and finally make their change to the original point of what they were arguing with. Many people from the media have called that flip flopping. And without the expanse of time so people will forget or a majority of the people that have never been involved with the topic change, it just goes unnoticed. But the line of misinformation continues and sometimes even starts a new direction of provided belief.
I don’t look at it as they can change it. That illustrates an overwhelming power they don’t have. I thing your last sentence is more telling of your recognition of this problem: “Progressives have no opposition in the historical field.” And why are the conservatives not arguing with them? Because they all live under the illusion that it will all go away with a new provided topic of the sky is falling. And their hands don’t get dirty and that’s the peoples’ mistake for not holding their work to the grind stone. The answer is at the polls.

Every day I wake up and I hear people constantly saying "we are surrounded by lies". I say it myself. Don't you say it too?
"What they’ve done to history is to replace it with their own invention."
I think we're saying the same thing, at the end of the day. Maybe I'm just using incorrect words here. The lie is in the mainstream, then the lie is history. Real history has been replaced and nobody sees it anymore. It's been packed away for inconvenience's sake.
"That is to say, on the one hand we have history. On the other, the left’s distortion of history. Two things which are categorically different and existentially separate."
This makes sense in a statistical sort of way but it loses sight of how it's playing out in real time. I think the word "replacement" (you said "replace") is the bridge in which we meet.
If you have the power to replace something, it's something you completely control.
"And why are the conservatives not arguing with them?"
I'm not convinced conservatives even know where to look for answers since progressives have controlled history for such a long time. Ten decades, a century, is a huge advantage. That's why I create audiobooks. If I blog about something, how many people will see it? 50? A couple hundred? When I record something it reaches tens of thousands of people. It's probably still not enough but it's certainly the most productive route I've got.
I can reach more people than most because I give things away for free. I don't cut my nose off to spite my face by selling it. And then once I'm done there's this tool that can be used and passed to anybody who wants it. We need these tools very badly to overcome that 100 year advantage.
"The answer is at the polls."
Almost everything you've said I agree with, but not this one. The problem is at the polls. We have far too many conservatives who are proud that they are members of the silent majority, and what this amounts to is that everybody shows up on that one day, election day, and wins. But then everybody is gone for the next 729 days and is completely uninvolved.
You can't win the election and lose the culture. You still lost. The answer is overwhelmingly NOT at the polls. There's no law that can be passed that stops historical revisionism. That requires individual activists to turn the football game off(or whatever it is) and get up and get involved.
"Culture is everything in this country. Once you get down to the political level, you've already lost the battle." - Andrew Breitbart (source)
Years ago I spent some time on Hokkaido.
I thought many of the people there looked Native Americanish!

Until the people in power are removed, and it is obvious it is not going to be done judicially, we are at the mercy of whatever they want us to think and know if we just sit by idly. And enough people are uneducated and accept a standard of less than we are based upon what they perceive to be comfort and security, it will continue. So since they are not going to stop themselves lawfully, then the only way to get rid of them is at the polls.
There are two steps to it, both really difficult:
1. Find people that aren’t corruptible. Trump was a good example as he had no horse in the political race to power and money, he already had that. This was why they couldn’t scare him, so he was beyond the political manure thus he scared them to death. Use those people to take control of the election system in every state requiring every vote to be verified by that select group of people before it leaves the state then reverified when it reaches the feds and secured. If there is any unlawful actions by anyone, jail and an investigation as to where it started and who was in on it...jail for them too. Make the punishment too horrid to try for. And if you think that will be too time consuming, we’ve been fighting terrorists domestic and international for 50 years and haven’t caught all them yet. So as they won’t batter themselves, you’ve got to eliminate their capacity so they can’t batter us.
2. Make the media accountable for what they say. Time for some people to be arrested on hate crimes. If they allow it to go forward without verification, that’s on them. It alleviates the position of absence without malice and creates malice.
This process is not going to be done in 4 or 8 years. There’re too many people out there to catch in a brief time frame. It will be an ongoing effort and until it is accomplished, the results are going to be the same. But even the thought of the law coming may start the cleansing process, hopefully. Therefore cleaning up the polls is the first step. As long as it is left alone, it will kill this country by creating a fast track to disaster. Look who got in this time this way and how much damage he’s done (or however pulls his strings) in less than a year.
The way the system is being brutalized, where the inmates are in charge of the asylum and make all the laws since you can’t get rid of them, then piece at a time, take their legs.

"After the discovery of several Clovis sites in eastern North America in the 1930s, the Clovis people came to be regarded as the first human inhabitants who created a widespread culture in the Americas. However, several archaeological discoveries have cast significant doubt on the Clovis-first theory, including sites such as Cactus Hill in Virginia, Paisley Caves in the Summer Lake Basin of Oregon, the Topper site in Allendale County South Carolina, Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Pennsylvania, the Friedkin site in Texas, Cueva Fell in Chile, and especially Monte Verde also in Chile. The oldest claimed human archaeological site in the Americas is the Pedra Furada hearths in Brazil, controversially dated to 19,000 to 30,000 years before the earliest Clovis sites." - wiki
Oops.
How can there be any real doubt that capable seafaring societies, whether from Oceania or the Mediterranean (gasp! Euros!) have been doing criss-crossing the globe for just about forever.
Yes, it can. Trump could run on reviving Exile as punishment for poltical crimes, and we could be finally be rid of the Deep State within a year.
Create a domestic tribunal that is the internal equivalent of the United States Alien Terrorist Removal Court (a special Court composed of 5 Article III judges, but a Court whose power has never been exercised).
This new Tribunal, among other special powers, would revive the ancient and just punishment of Exile for many of the current puppet-state conspiracists -- the confiscation of their assets and permanent stripping of their US citizenship.
By the 3rd successful prosecution, after banishing and stripping US citizenship from the Soros family, the Bidens, and the Obamas, we'd have their proper attention. Leftism would be finished in the US in less than a year.

Mostly Ainu live on Hokkaido.
yup, and the nations were even a seed of design of Congrss.
as to the “hippie” thing ...ain’t been a ‘hippie’ since the ‘70’s, so ya lost me there.
now, there are a lot of folks taking to’injun ways’ that ain’t ‘injun’, but out of respect, not because hollyweird sez its kewl.
i refer to the shamanic lifestyle, including their ‘medicine’. Even some Britishers on their island, have done so.
lastly, i, a mojave/white halfbreed, believe that at least some of these folks, are attempting to keep ‘the old ways’ alive, and not fade into nonexistence.
( you were not referring to new agers, were you?)
Think of it this way:
Truth is permanent, lies are temporary.
Truth is honorable, lies are shameful.
Truth is strength, lies are weakness.
And no, I don’t say we’re surrounded by lies every day. I don’t say it at all, as far as I can remember. My approach is to disregard the lies.
Fake history is not history, no matter how many people believe it.
History is defined as things that happened. It’s not defined as things that didn’t happen but lots of people believe they did.
So no, the left doesn’t control history. In fact, they don’t even control their lies. They’ve lost control of their lies.
Aztecs were relatively recent arrivals in central Mexico. They did not conquer the Olmecs from Millenia earlier. A senior minister proposed to the ruler to make the surounding tribes be their “bread.” THey had no large meat animals, only fish, turkeys, and smaller animals. Cortez came and found that a lot of these tribes were tired of being Aztec bread. In fact Cortez’s best allies were the Tlaxcallans. Guess what, “tlaxcalli” is the Aztec word for “tortillas.” At any rate, many thousands of Tlaxcallans helped Cortez conquer Tenochtitlan.
Around ten years ago, a group connected with Walton/Walmart commissioned a study showing that several dozen DC schools were underutilized and therefore should be sold and used for private schools or other purposes. The person who wrote this study had produced a PhD thesis or similar serious report as part of their college studies on the ways the Spanish in old Mexico had cheated their Tlaxcallan allies of their land and wealth. I doubt that anyone in DC was aware of the connection between cheating Indian allies and cheating poor black people in DC as was proposed by this writer on behalf of Walmart.
Many millions of Indians in Mexico and Central America were killed by major plagues in the 1500s. Also, when the Pilgrams arrived in Massachusetts in 1620, large numbers of Indians had been killed off by smallbox. One estimate I heard recently suggested that 90% of the North American population had been killed off by European diseases. On the other hand Indians probably gave them syphilis.
.
The Clovis were probably severly reduced in population by the same event that probably killed off most of the large anumals in North America, like mammoths, saber tooth cats, giant armadillos, etc. This of course meant that large Clovis points were no longer needed. I atopped at a small museum in Kentucky or Tennessee and saw that arrows and spearpoints there. Around 8,000 years ago they were all much smaller than the Clovis type points had been much earlier.
Sunken CIv; time to put up “THe Book.
