Top general warns China could soon spring surprise nuclear strike on US

The second-ranking general in the US military has sounded the alarm about China’s weapons development — warning that Beijing may soon have the capability to launch a surprise nuclear strike against America.

“They look like a first-use weapon,” Gen. John Hyten, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told CBS News Tuesday. “That’s what those weapons look like to me.”

Hyten was discussing China’s test of a hypersonic weapon from this summer, which was first reported by the Financial Times last month.

“They launched a long-range missile,” Hyten said. “It went around the world, dropped off a hypersonic glide vehicle that glided all the way back to China, that impacted a target in China.”

I’m sympathetic, but have good friends and relatives who would be downwind of both sites. Maybe they could just drop the Chinese version of a one-ton JDAM on 112 N. LaSalle St., Chicago IL 60602? Surely their guidance systems are that good.

Who is talking about post-WWI ?

I am quoting from statements from the historical record made by politicians at the time - prior to WWI !

They and many others were convinced that a continental European war was impossible because of interconnected trade. I think England was one of Germany's largest if not the largest trading partner.

My ‘rule-of-thumb’ when everyone particularly the “opinion makers” are convinced something won't happen, look for it to happen !

Smug certainty is always an undoing !

Simply rubblize beijing, take out critical infrastructure and
communications throughout china.

Bomb all atolls militarized by china back to their natural state.

Sending china back to the stone age should get xi's attention.

If you think any kind of nuclear war is winnable, then at what cost to humanity and the earth. I would say you are the one who is in a fantasy land.

Having the capability isn’t surprising. Anyone paying a modest level of attention knows this.

The headline makes it sound like they would do it….soon.

There is no current reason for China to destroy their economy and suffer complete nuclear annihilation.

This is doom porn at its finest.

“The second-ranking general in the US military has sounded the alarm about China’s weapons development..”

If ever the US was ripe for plucking it is now...and deadly serious, determined REAL men know it. On the other hand, we have political “leadership” and an officer corps consumed with global warming, carbon footprints, equity, diversity, queerness, and other such rot. Not exactly the recipe for long term viability.

At this point, I think some type of EMP attack may be a blessing because it would disarm our tech overlords and return power to local entities. But it would be a difficult time for everyone but we have to pay the price for this craziness that’s been allowed I’d rather pay the price sooner and not make my son handle it all.

Well, here’s the complete lunacy “idea” of the day.

Taking out the dam kills several million people. But more importantly it takes out their breadbasket and a lot of industrial capacity.

It would be a huge deal. Short term it would suck, but they know it’s a strategic weakness and they have stored a lot of food “upstream”.

Nuclear weapons will never be used in anger. 1945 was a one-off event, never to be repeated.

The EMP threat is highly overrated.

It isn’t ‘smug’ to think a >$15T GDP country with a HUGE portion of their outlays going to China isn’t a reasonable comparison to a losing Germany of over 100 years ago... you lose however you look at it. Bad analogy and most definitely outdated, frankly.

D. The General is trying to ensure that he gets a cushy seat on the board of the company that is making the countermeasure for that.

“1) not able to defeat it and 2) not able to launch a counter-strike”

You left out “Ordered not to strike back”...

Did not Obunga state that the US would absorb a first strike and not retaliate?
Or words to that effect?

A. The general is sounding a legitimate alarm.
B. The general is exaggerating in order to increase the DOD budget.
C. This is just an attempt by the Biden administration to distract us.
D. The general is basing his fear mongering pitch for more money on an anonymous source in the Financial Times that appeared there and no where else.

...3 Gorges dam gets vaporized.”

I’ve often heard that stated. Is it a big deal if it happens?

Yes a very big deal with 400 million Chinese dead and 34-5 major cities washed away. None of that impacts the CCP at all - other then for them to order a major thermonuclear attack on the US, wiping out most US cities and most of our population. Other than that no big deal.
